Head Teacher’s Welcome

Lauren Rodger, Head Teacher

A warm welcome to the North Berwick High School website. We hope the site gives you a flavour of our school, and also provides any information that you are seeking. If you can’t find what you are looking for, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

Our website should also give you a sense of the ethos of NBHS. It is a happy school, where positive relationships are a priority and our values of curiosity, diligence, kindness and belonging are encouraged and fostered in every member of the school community. We pride ourselves in valuing each young person individually and equally, recognising that all pupils have different needs; we aim to support those needs through the provision of a wide variety of learning experiences for all our pupils. We want learning to be challenging, stimulating and – often – exciting. We want our young people to be curious about the world around them, inspired to find out things for themselves.

Our school motto is ‘Aim Higher’ and our pupils put this into practice beyond the classroom, as well as within it. There is a high uptake from pupils for the wide variety of extra-curricular opportunities on offer. Many of our pupils also lead or participate in groups and committees, playing a key role in improving how we do things and making a very positive difference to the overall work of the school.

It’s important to us, too, that we work in close partnership with our parents and with the wider community. We have close links with our cluster primary schools: Aberlady, Athelstaneford, Dirleton, Gullane and Law. We seek out opportunities for parents and carers to be engaged and involved in the work of the school and, in particular, in supporting their children with their learning. Both our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and Parent Council are very active, offering great support to the school.

I do hope that you enjoy exploring our website and reading about some of the wonderful things happening in our school.
