There’s always a warm welcome from staff and pupils at Pencaitland Primary.
Pencaitland Primary School opened on its present site in August 1975 and was formally opened on May 3rd 1976.
The building is semi-open plan set in Easter Pencaitland. It is a state school, operating within the structure of East Lothian Council. The basic accommodation consists of 10 classroom bases set around 2 open areas, a multi purpose hall with stage, library, dining hall and community room.

MORE ABOUT PPS.
In June 2016, following the school’s 40th Anniversary Celebrations in May, documents and items such as Headmaster Log Books from two previous village schools and other early materials and photographs from PPS, were donated to John Gray Archive Centre in Haddington, to preserve them for the years to come. The Anniversary worked to celebrate the different schools of Pencaitland and their place at the centre of Village life as well as celebrate the current school role and the one to come. The parent council are very grateful for all the help and engagement from pupils and families, past and present, of Pencaitland for the stories and artefacts shared – and explained.
Just a little note:
We are reviewing, updating and experimenting with the website currently, to bring it up to date. This means Parent Council and Teaching Staff are fitting it in around all the other demands on our time, so we can’t promise it will be “all singing and dancing” as quickly as we’d like….but please do still take a look around whilst work is in progress. There is still a lot to take a look at.
Let us know if you thought you’d find something, but couldn’t – or more info on a particular topic would be helpful. If you find a link isn’t working, let us know too. We don’t mean to miss anything, but… the gremlins often hit around midnight. Meanwhile – thanks for your patience!
