Euro Quiz 2017

True Champs!

A huge well done to the P6 pupils who represented the school in the Scottish Schools Euroquiz 2017.

The Scottish European Educational Trust runs an annual competition for P6 pupils, which sees teams of four working together to broaden their knowledge of Europe. Subjects covered include history, geography, sport, culture, languages and the European Union. Heats take place in local authorities from January to March, with the winning teams from all areas going forward to the National Euroquiz Final in May, held in the Scottish Parliament.

In the school’s first entry into the inter-school competition, there were no previous records to uphold, but the boys changed that!

Taking part in local East Lothian heat were the four boys: Dante, Michael, Joel and Ben. With a variety of questions, all the teams soon started to get into their flow – and then face elimination. Suspense and excitement filled the room, each right answer taking them a step further. Then a hush settled over the competitors; ‘who had been good enough for the last leg?’

It was tense.

……..and the finalists are…….

Loretto Junior School and Pencaitland Primary School!

It was thrilling.

Questions were tough.

After a hard fought battle only one point separated the two teams  when the results were called.

Euroquiz Final

The worthy winners were Loretto – but our true champs were indisputably the Fantastic Four from PPS!

Praise for their behaviour and good conduct throughout was shared to class teacher, showing the team were also great ambassadors for their school and adding to the happy memories of the event.

The jubilant team returned home to Pencaitland with a very proud Mrs Bagnall and parent helper / parent council member, Flor Jackman, who supported the team in the lead up to the event as well as on the day.

Well done boys, you are all True PPS Champs!

Growth Mindset. (Health and Well-being).

With Growth Mindset being a key issue for PPS, particularly looking at Resilience and better life skills to help both in and out of school…..here are some more resources. Big Deal Little Deal has already been shared after being introduced in school…have a look and see the little video and post explaining it for the kids and ourselves.

And another wonderful video which explains a lot of Growth Mindset, ‘in action’.

AUSTIN’S BUTTERFLY

Meadowbank Athletics

Teams from P6 & P7 attended the Meadowbank athletics tournament today and did the school proud. Each pupil gave their all against 13 other schools, many of them because of their size, having considerably more pupils to draw on. The teams competed in long jump, high jump, cricket ball throw, 80m, 150m, 600m and the 4 x 100m relay. Everyone had a great time despite the cold and damp weather.  See some photos here.

The Great Egg Race 2012

Primary 3 & Primary 6 got together during Technologies Week to recreate Professor Heinz Wolff’s Great Egg Race.  The challenge was to create a vehicle, powered only by a single rubber band, to carry an egg as quickly as possible over a 5m course.

This clip shows some of the contestants taking part in the race.

P6’s ‘Wallace’ and ‘Bruce’ Museum

P6 have been working extremely hard creating ancient artefacts for our Wallace and Bruce Museum.  We were so happy to see the whole school and our parents/carers visit.  We loved getting your feedback and I’m glad you enjoyed visiting it as much as we did putting it together!  I am glad we could share our learning with you!
