A new term / school year is upon us and so perfect timing for a little news from PTA Chair, Vicky Swann, pre AGM and from PC Chair, Erica Burberry – with a warm welcome to any parents / carers to come along to our first meeting of the term, on 26th Aug – 7pm in PPS.
Hello to all the PPS families for 2019/20,
A very warm welcome to all of you at the start of another school year. This year we will improve how we keep you up to date with PTA activities. We will send out regular newsletters containing information on upcoming events, you can follow our PTA facebook page (search for PPS PTA), and we will ensure all information is published here on our PTA blog. Please also get in touch via our email address firstname.lastname@example.org or catch one of us in the playground.
Looking forward to a great year!

2018/19 Round up …
As always, I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who got involved last year. We managed to raise around £6,000, a fantastic achievement for all involved. Whether you were a PTA member or one of our event volunteers; whether you donated to the raffle or teddy tombola; or simply came along and spent your money, you helped to raise vital funds that support our school and help to create a wonderful environment for our children to enjoy, develop and learn.
Last year the school focused on ‘Mission Pencaitland Play’. The project transformed the school’s outdoor space, providing a varied and rich outdoor environment for our children to enjoy. The PTA supported the project by: funding a play expert to deliver specialist training to staff and children; funding an additional member of staff to enable all classes to participate in outdoor activities; and contributing to the purchase of two new pieces of outdoor play equipment that we hope will be a huge hit with the children this year.
Aside from Mission Pencaitland Play, the PTA also purchased 6 guitars for music classes and continued to fund transport for class trips; the Read, Write Inc subscription and the P7 leavers gifts among other things.
The draft East Lothian Mental Health and Wellbeing Action Plan for Children and Young People is now out for consultation – only a few days left – closes 23/06/19: https://eastlothianconsultations.co.uk/education/draft-mental-health-action-plan
Congratulations to Wendy as successful applicant for our school janitor’s post, following Ronnie’s retirement.
Wendy has long been part of the school, with youngest about to start P7 and also a longstanding member of janitorial team – dedicatedly cleaning alongside colleague Christine, but now she will be an even more familiar face in and around the school day. Well done from parents and carers of PPS!
The PPS Parent Council invites all parents and carers to…..
This year, the parent council would like to invite all parents and carers, with children in PPS / Nursery to come along and take part in our Conversation Cafe. Pupils from the Rights Respecting Schools group will share with us – and PC and PTA are keen to share what we’ve been up to and to hear your views also, so we can set priorities for next session.
We are delighted that we will also have David Gilmour (ELC) coming to share insights into keeping our children safe online – and Lena Hutton (Community Learning Development officer) sharing insights into the wellbeing of our children and building resilience. We will also hold our AGM, but it will be a very condensed part of the evening which everyone is welcome to stay for also.
Great news – several months ago PPS applied to join the Walkers Crisps Recycle scheme – and to nominate Pencaitland Primary School PTA as the charity to support from our collection point. Any crisp packets can be recycled, but there are a few ‘no’ items too.
All has been approved now – a real collaboration for parents and carers, pupils, staff team – and the wider community too!
For more info check our facebook page or the website for Walkers Crisps/recycle.
Note: All links will take you to external pages.
The Learning Council have also been working across the primary classes on their eco-friendly project. You’ll hear more about that at the Spring Fayre!
Thanks to everyone who made time today to join staff team in school.
An interesting session, and great opportunity for parents and children to give their views too. If you missed out today, fear not, as our HT will set out similar consultation for parents and carers to access during the three parent consultation dates in the coming week.
If for any reason you can’t access those either, you can email email@example.com to request a ‘home version’ of the areas being reviewed.
