Taking part in your Parents and Teachers Association

Dear Parent / Carer,

Now, more than at any other time, the role of the PTA in ensuring our children get the best from their time at Pencaitland Primary School is paramount. With increasing costs and decreasing funding the need for the whole of the school community to contribute to getting the best for our children is greater now than it ever has been. During the last school year PTA funding for trips, equipment, Christmas festivities, French Club and assorted projects, for both nursery and school children, amounted to over £6,000. Without the PTA these things would not have been possible.

Parents’ Petition Update

This is a quick note to let parents and others who signed the recent petition know that we have been speaking with the Education authorities in East Lothian Council regarding our grave concerns over a perceived lack of parent consultation in the appointment of senior staff to Pencaitland Primary.

190 signatures were gathered over a three day period which the Parent Council is deeply grateful for as it illustrates that there is widespread disquiet over this issue.

We will continue to update parents as and when we have any news to report.

Call for parents to participate in Pencaitland Community Council

Could you take part in Pencaitland's Community Council? There are currently a number of vacancies on the Pencaitland Community Council (PCC). Young people, the farming community and parents of pre-school or school-age children are currently under-represented and it would be great to see new members from these groups.

The PCC is the liaison between the community and East Lothian Council. We meet almost every month to discuss matters affecting the local community and to find ways of addressing or resolving these matters. The meetings are also an opportunity to chat to other community councillors and to meet our locally elected Councillors. We also have a website and produce a newsletter once a year.

If you think you would be interested, or you know someone who might be, please contact Janet Bassett on 340 540 or Nicky Neighbour at nicky_neighbour@yahoo.co.uk or on 340 115 to find out more.

School Opening Monday 6th December

Following advice from East Lothian Council, we are planning to open for all pupils on Monday 6th December.  Efforts have been made to clear safe routes to school but we would recommend walking where possible, taking care due to icy pavements.  If you have young children, or have concerns about their safety, make sure you accompany them on their walk to school as we cannot guarantee that school crossing supervisors will be on duty in all areas.

Although The Glebe and school car park have been cleared, the playground is still under a lot of snow so we would recommend that pupils don’t arrive before 8.45am.

Please ensure that pupils are dressed appropriately for the weather conditions and please provide them with a plastic bag (preferrably labelled) to put wellies, gloves, scarf etc. in.

If there are any changes we will update you over the weekend.  For more information see the East Lothian Council website.
