We have found ‘a loveliness of ladybirds’ in our nursery garden. That is the name for a collection of ladybirds.

We have discovered that there are over 5000 species around the world. They come in different colours and can have a different amount of spots. They live for about 1 year.

This is what the children have learned:

They are different colours because there are different kinds. (Callum)

They have different amount of spots cos they are different types. (Harris)

Mother Ladybird lays the eggs. Then they are larva. They make like a cocoon (chrysalis). That is light brown and black! They are still. Then they come out and the ladybirds are done. They have spots. (Zoe)

…and wings! (Freddie)

They eat greenfly. (Matty)   Aphids! (Zoe)

We will continue to look around the nursery garden to see what other creatures we can find.

We are learning to care for the creatures in our environment and how they help us and each other.
