A week in P5!

Primary 5 have spent a lot of time this week looking at emotion talks. We based our lessons on the main character in the novel ‘There’s a Boy in the Girl’s Bathroom’. We talked about emotion words, emotion triggers, body sensations and behaviours. Finally, we discussed emotion regulation ‘what I can do to make myself feel better when my emotions are strong’.

In literacy Primary 5 have been introduced to AR (Accelerated Reader). We are aiming to do 30 minutes of reading a day in class, taking our novels home is optional. We encourage the children to enjoy reading and challenge themselves by being aware of their ZPD (zone of proximal development). We are also beginning to look at comprehension work and literacy circles (focusing on reading skills).

In numeracy we are revising our mental maths strategies and addition/subtraction. We are also beginning to look at 2-D shapes and their properties.

Please remember that we have meet the teacher evening, next Wednesday (28th August) at 3:20pm.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.

Welcome back Primary 5!

Welcome back Primary 5!

We have had a great first few days in our new classrooms meeting our new teachers. This week we have had a chance to revisit Pinkie values, discuss our new routines and begin to contribute to the wider classroom through talking about class roles and jobs.

We have started our new class novel, ‘The boy in the girls bathroom’ by Louis Sachar. This novel will be our IDL focus this term; focusing on emotions, bullying and friendships.

Watch this space… we will keep you up to date every week on either the website or Google Classroom.

Last week in P5!

P5 have had such a busy last week of school. We have really enjoyed sports day, judo taster sessions and Pinkie’s Got Talent. I would like to say a BIG thank you to all of Primary 5a for their hard work and efforts for PGT. What a great show! P5 have finished their term with a slumber party, with some yummy snacks and juice – well deserved!

What a wonderful year.

Maths, Music and Art in P5a!

P5a have been busy learning about measurement. We have enjoyed doing a lot of active tasks to help us learn more about perimeter. We have taken our learning outside and enjoyed a perimeter hunting game inside! Next steps, calculating area!

P5a have also been enjoying using buckets to practice their drumming skills with Ms Ireland.

Further to this, we have begun looking at a new artist called Gustav Klimt. We have learned a lot about this artist, his life and his artwork. We took inspiration from his piece of art ‘The Tree of Life’ and created our own.
