Into the woods

The nursery children have been visiting the woods regularly over the past four weeks and have had an amazing time exploring the space, climbing trees, building dens, swinging in the hammock and finding out all about the Gruffalo.

We found purple prickles caught on the branches of the trees.
They have worked together to solve problems such as how our den will stay up and what we can use so that it will be warm inside. They have used the woodland resources creatively to develop their play and enjoyed sharing all they have learned with their friends back at nursery.

Congratulations

Congratulations to two of our nursery children who received Special Merit awards for their fantastic paintings of ‘Feathered Friends’. They collected their prize during a special celebration at the Scottish Gallery of Modern Art – Modern One. Their paintings will be on display until 24th September. After this date they will travel to different displays – one in Giffnock and another in Dumfries.

Congratulations to all our nursery children who took part and created fantastic pieces of artwork for the competition.

Nursery in March

The boys and girls have been very busy in nursery this session. Our bulbs are starting to bloom and we have been tidying up our little garden patch. Whilst digging we found this long wriggly worm. This means our soil will be good for planting. Some have been trying out their own experiments (in the sand) to see if the seeds will grow.

The morning children have been busy building – houses, dens, ships and cars. They have been working out how tall their creations should be and what they need to use to make it. The builders are in discussion outside the cabin to see what work needs to done.

The pirates have also been in the nursery garden and some treasure has been found. We have been counting how many gold coins we have found before we put them in the treasure boxes.

Inside the children have been thinking about the different animals on the farm and where they live. Enclosures have been made for them to sleep in.

Fun in the Woods – March 2017

We have had many trips to the woods, exploring the great outdoors. Fresh air and exercise keeps us healthy

We explore our special space in the woods and find lots of interesting, wonderful things. We even found a fairy house.

We have seen many signs of Spring. The snowdrops and daffodils are growing all around the woodland and we have noticed the changes that happen as time passes.

The Troll left us a letter and when we read it he was asking us to remember to close the gate into the woodland space. He also borrowed our hammock.

We found his special magic stick, but it was broken, so we had to solve the problem of putting it back together again. We used tape to join the stick up and stuck his magic egg on top.

To the woods…

Our Nature Nurture sessions have begun and the children have been having fun down in the woods. As we participate in a variety of activities the children are learning all about their world and developing confidence, independence and self esteem. They are enthusiastic about sharing their experiences with friends and a new display area has been set up with a special floorbook and some of the things we have found. Be sure to have a look at what we are doing over the coming weeks.

The children enjoy taking the lead and showing us the way to the woods.
