Creating the software engineers of the future – coding in P6B…
P6 have been learning about African Drumming over the last few weeks and we were lucky enough to have a visit from Adi and Thomas from Ghana who gave us some expert help to prepare for a performance in front of the rest of the school! Adi and Thomas also performed a traditional dance from Ghana to start our show – it was amazing!
P6B have been learning about money this term and this week we looked at what people did before money – trading and bartering. We played a game that involved us having to barter with people in our group to try and get a full survival pack with clothes, animals, food, wood and so on. A couple of the groups found it easy and managed to complete their sets, but some groups found it more challenging and maybe wouldn’t survive the coming winter….
P6B have been exploring colour (see here) and today we looked at the changing colour of the leaves in autumn. We discussed why this happens, then looked at some art by Andy Goldsworthy. He uses who uses leaf colours to create amazing patterns and art, as well as other natural materials. We had a go at exploring colour in the leaves around the school:
P6B asked loads of different questions about science at the start of the year and we have been working through them, trying to answer as many of their “wonders” as we can. We have looked at gravity and planet formation; chemical reactions and jet packs and this week we looked at colour and light. We used water and mirrors to create our own rainbows and looked at different objects under different colours of light to see how they changed.
