Friday 4th December saw five finalists from the Preston Lodge, Home Economics department compete in the school final of the Rotary Young Chef competition 2009/10.
The pupils created a fantastic array of dishes, both main courses and desserts to temp the judges taste buds. The standard was exceptionally high, a comment from one of the Rotarians regarding the judges (Colin & Sarah from McKirdy’s Steakhouse, Edinburgh) – they were excellent with the youngsters throughout, giving constructive feedback at the judging and, most importantly, praising them all. Actually the ‘praising’ part was easy since the standard was so high, but nevertheless was well-merited.
Having held the school heat the previous Monday, the finalists were S2 pupils Eilidh Alexander, Tansu Mowat, Isla Macaskill, plus S4 pupils Rebecca Atkins and Sean Gaffney.
The winner was Rebecca, with runner up being Isla who received vouchers from Longniddry Rotary Club. Both go on to represent the school at the zone final on 11th January at Beeslack High School in Midlothian. Well done to all who entered!!
Our thanks to Longniddry Rotary for their support throughout, especially Mr Gordon Smillie.
Hi to the Home Economics people. I’m Rebecca’s Dad and was so proud to hear about her success in this competition. I think the video is great but, being slightly biased, I don’t think it features Rebecca enough and it’s a shame that the results aren’t included. having said that, I think it gives the flavour (excuse the pun) of the competition and the music really suits the visuals.
Good look to Rebecca in the next round!!!!
All the best,
Roger Atkins
Well done Rebecca x
