On Our Doorstep in Home Economics

On our Doorstep ProgrammeThe Home Economics department has fully engaged with the whole school cross curricular project. We have a very full programme of activities for S1-S3 pupils over the course of a month. This peaks during the week beginning 19th May with visits/activities provided by QMS- Quality Meat Scotland who will be working with S2. Scott MaCrae- Executive Sous Chef from ‘The Balmoral’ Hotel, working with S3 Hospitality pupils to prepare a meal for 24. Also RHET, Royal Highland Education Trust who will work with S1 to look at the food chain from the ‘Field to the Plate’. Great opportunities for all pupils.

Expertise from Top Chef

Senior Hospitality pupils benefited from the professional skills of top chef Keith Marley from La Potiniere in Gullane. Keith shared his knife skills and decoration ideas/techniques for a dessert to help give ideas to the pupils for their forthcoming practical dishes.

It is great to have such support to encourage the pupils and develop their experiences within the Home Economics/ Hospitality courses.

Hopefully we can broaden the use of local people in this aspect of the course for other year groups.
