Optional Creative Textile course in Home Economics
The course will be open to all S3 students who have an interest in creating their own designs and will be an exciting opportunity for students who have an interest in fashion and can use individual creative skills to create a unique and personal piece of work
The course will run for 3 x 12 week blocks and each course will have a different challenge.
The aim of the course is for the learners to work to a given brief to design, plan and manufacture a fashion or textile item identifying solutions.
Learners will be required to use basic patterns and construction skills in a step- by- step sequence
The learner will:
Select a design solution to a given brief
Identify and select appropriate materials for their design solution
Use a variety of textile construction technique to create the item
Complete a fashion/ textile item
Examples of proposed briefs:
Research, design and make a simple fabric decoration that could be used at Christmas:
Make a tree decoration, design a advent calendar
Design plan and make a textile item that would be suitable for a baby/toddler: make a soft toy, knit babys’ clothes, patchwork a quilt.
Produce a simple item of clothing that would appeal to a teenager: revamp charity shop finds, update last year’s fashion, design an item showing your own style
The learner will:
Research and find a suitable item to fit the brief
Use a paper pattern
Select appropriate fabrics, yarns, threads and fasteners
Use a variety of construction skills
Use equipment and tools correctly
