Senior Girls Football
The Senior Girls football team played Boroughmuir in the last 16 of the Scottish Cup on Tuesday 13 December.
The game was played even though the weather condition were terrible, due to high winds and rain. Even with this both teams adapted to the conditions well and contributed to a good game of football.
Both teams went into the game full of confidence of proceeding to the last 8 of the Scottish Cup. With the game end to end and both teams trying to take the lead the game was full of incidents.
Preston Lodge started to take advantage in the midfield and through this they got the break when Emmelie Young went through one on one with the goalkeeper to score and take a 1-0 lead. This is how it stayed until half-time due to some outstanding defending from the time and great save from Jennifer Currie.
The team started the second half with more urgency to get the second goal. They had a couple of opportunities through Hannah Bruce and Rebecca McArthur, but the Boroughmuir goalkeeper kept the score to 1-0.
With the score at 1-0 Boroughmuir had a free-kick in the last minute. Preston Lodge had to defend and two great saves from Jennifer Currie brought the game to a close and sent the girls through to the last 8 of the Scottish Cup.
Well Done Girls!!

Senior Girls v St Aiden’s High School
Preston Lodge Senior Girls played St Aiden’s High School yesterday at Wishaw sports centre.
This was the first match the team had played this year. They went through with only two subs due to illness. However after a terrible start with the girls conceding after 10 seconds the girls had a tough uphill task on their hands against last years semi-finalists.
The team started to play well with some good performances from Cara Ross, Lauren Donaldson and Goalkeeper Jennifer Currie to keep the score at 1-0. As confidence grew Amie-Jayne Russell and Katie Cochrane started to dominate in midfield. this allowed the strikers Rebecca McArthur and Lauren Buchanan to get more involved and became a threat to St Aiden’s.
Amie-Jayne Russell brought the teams level after good works from Rebecca McArthur and Hannah Bruce down the wing. The teams went into half-time at 1-1.
After a spirited half-time discussion the girls went out knowing they were doing well and this brought new fresh confidence. St Aiden’s began to struggle physically as Preston Lodge got stronger and stronger.
Amie-Jayne hit a free-kick around 35 yards out and hit the bar. Rebecca McArthur reacted quickest and scored the rebound.
The game began to stretch and from their the team took a 4-1 lead. St Aiden’s came back into the game with a superb free-kick that goalkeeper Jennifer Currie could not do anything about.
As St Aidens chased the game Preston Lodge finished it off with another goal from Rebecca McArthur to seal the win.
The girls done really well. The whole team deserve a mention for beating a good St Aiden’s side. However player of the match voted by the captain was Jennifer Currie. Players player of the match was Amie-Jayne Russell.
Preston Lodge Team: Jennifer Currie, Lauren Donaldson, Shannon Langlands, Cara Ross, Brogan Spence, Chloe Connachan, Hannah Bruce, Katie Cochrane, Amie-Jayne Russell, Rebecca McArthur, Lauren Buchanan, Caitlin McCaig, Brooke Armstrong
