Designed for those starting S5 in the summer the aim is to provide an insight into what going to university is like and to inspire pupils to think of university as an option for them when they leave school.
Due to the ongoing restrictions we are going online again and have an all new two-week programme of events from Monday 26th July to Friday 6th August. It is based on our residential programme so all the favourites are there, including subject tasters and student life sessions. In addition new sessions will help pupils get a better feel for what university is like and to get them thinking about possible careers. The atmosphere as always will be friendly and supportive and the focus is on meeting new people, including our amazing Brightest Watts student ambassadors, learning new skills and raising confidence levels.
We will provide materials and packs to support the programme. We can also provide laptop loans to anyone who does not have access to a laptop or computer. This would be preferable in most cases to the use of a phone or tablet to make sure they can get the most out of the programme.
In addition to the summer programme we will be running a series of masterclasses throughout the next two years to supplement their development and support them as they decide what to do when they leave school. We also hope to get them on campus when we can.
You can find out more, including how to apply, on our website – www.hw.ac.uk/summerschool. Places are limited and although we welcome all applications, we will prioritise pupils from widening participation backgrounds including priority postcodes (MD20), pupils with experience of care, young carers and those from schools with low progression rates to higher education. Applications should be submitted no later than Friday 30th April 2021.
If pupils, or parents and carers have any questions please let me know – just email firstname.lastname@example.org.
