Today is World Book Day! Thanks to National Book Tokens and lots of book publishers and booksellers, World Book Day, in partnership with schools all over the country, will be distributing more than 14 million £1 World Book Day book tokens in the UK and Ireland.
When you get your book token, all you need to do is to take it to your local bookshop (there’s lots of them out there) – and swap it for one of the ten (exclusive, new and completely free) £1 World Book Day books! Or, if you’d prefer, you can use your book token to get £1 off any full price book instead!
And, all day in school, there’s a chance to get a free book – just find one of the Mystery Books, hidden around the school and it’s yours to keep.
If you ordered a book after the Dan Smith event last month, these have finally arrived!
Please come and collect your books from the Library – but remember, you must PAY for your book before you can take it away!
Dan Smith is coming to PL today!
All S3s are due to attend the event, periods 3 & 4. Please go to your normal period 3 class for registration, then make your way down to the hall asap!
Dan will chat about about writing and about where ideas come from. He will also talk a bit about himself, his childhood and some of his experiences living in Brazil – a few stories about some of the interesting people he met and things he did – and how he collected ideas for some of his books.
Fancy winning a GIANT Easter egg plus £20 of book tokens? All you have to do is guess who owns each of the bookshelves in the movie (could be a department, could be staff shelfie from home). Entry forms available in the Library. Closing date Wednesday 2nd April at 1pm. Watch the movie at http://youtu.be/7PeKPPV_6qc
Who might own a bookshelf like this? Think you can guess…
Watch out for the staff shelfies this week. They might be bookshelves from home, or bookshelves in the classrooms. Get them ALL right and you could win book tokens and a LOT of chocolate!!!
World Book Day is the biggest celebration of books
and reading in the world. You should have got your WBD
£1 book token at registration. You can exchange your token
at any bookshop for one of the special edition WBD books
or you can use it to get £1 off any book of your choice!
All around PL today, there are mystery books.
They look like this…
If you find one, it’s yours to keep.
Be brave, don’t judge the book by its cover!
From today, ALL years can access the Library at break and lunch to do homework, studying or play chess – there are no year restrictions – this is for a trial period until Christmas. However, the Library Assistants will monitor how many people are using the space. They will turn people away if it gets too full. Please respect their decisions!
