IRONKIDS Edinburgh is a series of running events for children aged 3-15 years being held in East Lothian, Midlothian and Edinburgh on June 29th and June 30th 2018.
IRONKIDS Edinburgh is part of The Year of Young People 2018 event programme, and is being organised in conjunction with IRONMAN 70.3 Edinburgh, the legendary endurance, multisport race of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run which returns to the capital on Sunday 01 July 2018. With support from The Year of Young people we are excited to extend IRONMAN Edinburgh 70.3 to include running events specifically for children and young people.
IRONKIDS is part of a global series that every year has over 50,000 kids aged 3-15 years running races that are a distance of between 500m and 2000m. We need your support to make sure that IRONKIDS Edinburgh is the best event on the world circuit! We want to see 1000 kids taking part in each of the race venues in Prestonpans, Dalkeith Country Park and Holyrood Park and we are looking for a team of young volunteers (aged 8-26 years) to make it happen.
Volunteering roles include:
• Event managers – help us plan and deliver an IRONKIDS event
• Logistics – see what it is like behind the scenes of a large sporting event and help us make sure that it runs smoothly
• Course design and event arena design – support organisers in designing each of the courses and arena layouts, learn about risk assessment and athlete safety
• Organise and run entertainment programmes and sport taster sessions at each of the events. Make your event special, who and what will you plan to showcase your local area? We’ll give you a budget to make this happen!
Communication and marketing
• Marketing support – support the marketing effort from print design and distribution to sourcing cost effective advertising opportunities
• Social media – put together a social media strategy and activate it to promote and support the events. Learn from social media experts
• Event media relations – assisting with our media campaign and help us to engage local and national media

Preston Lodge High School will host their annual Sports Personality of the Year Awards on Thursday 3 April 2014 in the school Assembly Hall at 7.00pm.
The event is held annually to celebrate the success of Preston Lodge High School pupils through sport. We celebrate the success of our schools team and individual successes as well as pupils who have been outstanding in other sports out with school.
Awards will also be presented to individuals from our school teams for ‘Most Improved Player of the Year’ and ‘Player of the Year’ award.
This year Sarah Warnock, Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Long Jumper, will be attending the event to give an insight to her life as an athlete.
All pupils who participate in extra-currricular sport through Active Schools should have received a letter from Mr Bennion to be invited to the event. It is important to bring back the tear-of slip at the bottom of the letter so we know who is attending.

Two convincing wins over a traditionally strong Linlithgow.
The S1’s were rampant from the beginning and scored 54 points in what was a hugely impressive start to their school rugby. Coaches Colin and Frank were delighted as were the many parents and supporters who came along to watch.
The s2’s were short of numbers due to other commitments (mainly pipe band) so they joined up with the s3’s to make a very strong squad. The match was an even contest but in the end PLHS were too strong and won by 25 points.
Remember ALL S1’s and S3’s are training on Tuesday nights at the Mary Murray, 6pm till 7.30pm.
ALL school players must train also on Wednesday nights after school till 5pm as usual.
We play Dunbar at home on Saturday which is always tough so all players should make an extra effort to make training.
Would all pupils who have returned their parental consent forms for the Extra Curricular golf academy please attend a short meeting on Wednesday morning (28 August) in the PE department. This is an important meeting and full attendance is needed. Thank you.
All hockey games are cancelled this weekend (8 December) due to the weather.
Please note that all Rugby games that were due to take place on Saturday 8 December have been cancelled due to the weather.
Brewin Dolphin Bowl Finals are on Wednesday 28 November at the Mary Murray in Prestonpans. The first match is Preston Lodge Under-18s v Peebles High School with kick-off at 5.00pm.
These are two big matches for the school rugby and we are looking for as much support as possible.
Friday 22 June will be dress down day or dress as a Sporting Hero. Pupils are to pay a £1 for dressing down. This £1 will be put towards the schools Olympic trip where the four Young Ambassadors in the school will be attending.
All pupils please give the £1 to your register teacher on Friday morning
