PLHS at Piping & Drumming Championship 2011

Preston Lodge pupils success at Piping and Drumming Championships

Preston Lodge pupils had a successful day at the Craigmount High School annual solo piping and drumming championships on Saturday 15th January.

The competition attracted a large number of competitors from all over Scotland.

In the 13 – 15yr Drumming event Daniel Luby won 2nd prize playing a March Strathspey and Reel. Emma Calderhead was 4th in the same category.

In the 12yr and under drumming event Becky Pollard was placed 5th.

8 pupils from Preston Lodge took part.

Daniel Luby took home a trophy previously won by 4 times world solo drumming champion Barry Wilson.

East Lothian Pipes and Drums Trust Schools coordinator, Lee Moore said “This is a fantastic achievement. Our pupils have worked really hard and they all did themselves and the school proud, whether or not they came home with a prize. What particularly pleased me was they great sense of teamwork from the pupils as pipers Eilidh Alexander and Clare Boothman gave up a lot of their time to practice with and perform with all of the drummers who took part.”

East Lothian Pipes and Drums Trust are working with The National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland, which features the top young players in the country, to promote a day of piping and drumming workshops on Sat 12 Feb at the Brunton Halls, followed by a concert by the NYPBoS in The Brunton Theatre. All pipers and drummers from East Lothian are invited to learn from and play with these exceptional young players. If you are interested in coming along email Lee Moore at pipedown@madasafish.com.
