Social Security Scotland has asked us to remind parents and carers of the forthcoming deadline for the best start school age payment – 29 February 2020 for children born between 1 March 2014 and 28 February 2015.
The link within the tweet below is for Social Security Scotland’s page since they administer the payments.
Nursery enrolment: Enrol your child by 6 March 2020
Families with a child born between 1 March 2017 and 28 February 2018 are being encouraged to enrol their child in nursery before 6 March 2020 for 2020/21.
Older children, or those who have not yet registered for an early learning and childcare place, should also register by this date.
To register for a place:
- Visit www.eastlothian.gov.uk/nurseryenrolment and find out about the different options available in council nursery settings from August 2020.
- Download a nursery registration form from the website.
- Complete the form and take it to your preferred (first) choice nursery. You should also take your child’s birth certificate.
- If you are choosing a blend of more than one provider, apply to your council nursery first and then speak to your funded provider – private nursery, childminder or community group – about what hours you would like from them.
- Make sure your application is in before 6 March 2020. Applications will still be accepted after this date, but they will not be considered in the first allocation process. Please get in touch with the Early Years and Childcare team if you have any questions or you can’t register by 6 March 2020.

Food Standards Scotland are currently developing a partnership campaign on allergens in young people, and while we are adding the final touches to the campaign we are looking to find out more about what the young people of Scotland feel about food allergies. Partnering up with Young Scot, the national youth information and citizenship charity, we’ve launched an allergies survey to get young people’s thoughts, whether they have an allergy to something you can eat, or not.
And we need your help. We would be grateful if you could promote the survey through your social media channels by posting and sharing details of the survey, so that we can reach even more young people. We’re specifically looking for 12 – 18 year olds, and those taking part will be entered into a prize draw for the chance to win one of three £50 Amazon vouchers, and if they’re a Young Scot member they can also claim 150 Reward points. The survey closes on 9th February.
The survey can be found here: https://www.surveygizmo.eu/s3/90180312/Young-People-and-Food-Allergies
You’ll be able to find our posts regarding the survey on our usual social media channels by clicking on the below relevant icons.
We’ll be in touch with you again in the coming weeks with more detail on how you can support the allergens campaign, which is due to launch on 25th February, running until the end of March. For any questions on the survey or the forthcoming campaign, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Many thanks for your help
