S6 INDUCTION – TUESDAY 11 AND WEDNESDAY 12 JUNE
We are looking forward to welcoming back our senior students on Monday 10 June – bright eyed and bushy tailed after their exams.
A reminder that on Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 June new S6 students will be involved in a residential induction programme at Broomlee Outdoor Centre in West Linton.
Students will be involved in a number of activities which will give them the opportunity to find out more about the challenges of S6, work together on problem solving tasks and fun outdoor activities.
I will meet with students on Monday morning to confirm the final arrangements with them but they should bring:
• Casual clothes (which may get wet and muddy – although I have booked sunshine for the 2 days)
• Sun cream
• Insect repellent
• A positive attitude!
We will leave school after registration on Tuesday 11 June and will return to school at approximately 4.45 pm on Wednesday 12 June.
Please be aware that the building is a no smoking zone and, of course, there can be no
alcohol in the course of the 2 days.
If you have not handed in your baby photo you should bring this with you.
The Preston Lodge Fair Trade group and the Pupil Council are pleased to announce that they will be jointly running a trial Fairtrade Tuck Shop at break time on Friday June 14th 2013, in the Maths Social Area.
There will be the following items on sale to pupils and staff –
- Fair Trade home baking
- Fair Trade fruit
- Fair Trade cold drinks
The long term aim is that this combined group of pupils will develop this initiative in the new session and hope to run an end of month Fair Trade Tuck Shop every last Friday of the month. Funds from the venture are going towards buying new outdoor furniture for the school garden.
We look forward to seeing you all on Friday June 14th at break time in the Maths Social Area!
The Pupil Council and Fair Trade Group
Pupils going on the Battlefields tour in June this year should attend our next meeting on Thursday April 25th at 1.15pm in Ms Armstrong’s room.
All pupils should by now have submitted the following:
- passport and/or the group passport forms

If you have yet to do so it is imperative you bring this with you on Thursday. The group passport application is being sent off on Friday.
Mrs Binnie and Ms Armstrong
There will be a meeting for those travelling to the Battlefields of Belgium and France in June on Thursday March 14th at 1.15pm in Ms Armstrong’s room.
All involved must attend the meeting to collect important information and paperwork. If you have a valid reason for not being in attendance you should see Mrs Binnie or Ms Armstrong as a matter of priority.
Battlefields 2013 participants are reminded that the February payment is due by te end of next week. Thank you to all who have already brought in their installment. Money can be handed in to either Mrs Binnie or Ms Armstrong.
Battlefields 2013 is currently recruiting and still has some spaces up for grabs should any pupil or recent former pupil be interested in joining us on this excellent trip with Mercat Tours.
More information can be obtained from Mrs Binnie or Miss Armstrong – but be quick as places will be issued on a first come, first served basis. If your own original trip is no longer running but think it is too late to sign up to another one, it’s not the case . Any parent interested in the trip can also contact the same members of staff for more details.
Significant financial subsidies are available to members of the school pipes and drums and other sources of finance can be obtained for those on lower icomes from a variety of bodies. Again, the staff running the trip will help with this process.
Team Grange have been declared the winners of this year’s House Competition. Having won the contest for the first time in over a decade last session, the House Captains for 2011-12 were absolutely determined to deliver a similar result this time around.
Jenna Stevens, Blair Robertson, Callum Price and Kathryn Berg (featured above) brought an infectious combination of brains, beauty and brawn allied with a competitive instinct that meant they were not going to let anything or anyone get in their way.
Grange won a number of whole school competitions including House Rugby, House Tug of War (Boys), Children in Need Dress Up Event, Hallowe’en Dress Up Day event and the Moonwalk Pink Day competition.
In addition to this a number of individual pupils hit the heights representing their county, region or country in a range of sports and creative activities. Music plays a huge role in the life of Grange pupils and the talented school pipes and drums band are very obviously smattered with more than their fair share of Grange pupils. Meanwhile, a number of youngsters have been at the forefront of delivering musical contributions in the community.
A full run down of individual contributions of significant note will appear in this publication in the new session.
Congratulations also go to all of our excellent house captains this year – each house was proudly represented by a fabulous set of young people. The number and range of events this year surpassed previous competitions and much of this is down to the commitment and enthusiasm of our talented house captains. Well done to you all!
The House Trophy will be presented to Grange at the School Prizegiving on the 19th June 2012.
