Soccer AM Dance off – eat yer heart out!

When we return from the half term holiday pupils from all three houses will be treated to assemblies like you’ve never seen before. In an attempt to promote the next house competition on February 23rd, your House Captains will bring you the assembly to rival Soccer AM’s renowned Dance Off!

We shall say no more – but be late for assemblies on the first week back and live to regret it…

The next house competition will be a musical event – full details will be give out at assembly and each year will have the opportunity to volunteer budding dancers into the house competition fray. More details from your house captains in the first week back – in both assemblies AND during normal registration time. Watch out for them visiting a regi class near you soon!

Battlefields Tour concert in January…

Attention all veterans of the 1st Battalion of Preston Lodge Pals!

In 2007, Greentrax Records boss Ian Green visited the World War I graveyards of Flanders with Des Brogan and Mercat Tours (who also take Preston Lodge to the Battlefields of WWI). A year later, Greentrax released the double CD Far, Far From Ypres, a collection of soldiers’ songs, music-hall favourites and home-front anthems from 1914-18, alongside subsequent songwriters’ reflections on the conflict. This CD provides a backdrop to the tour our 1st Battalion of Pals enjoyed last summer.

A live selection of the material led to this brand new full-length show, “Far, Far from Ypres”, featuring an array of performers from the album including Ian Bruce, Ragged Glory, Soopna, Sangsters, Dick Gaughan, Barbara Dickson, Stephen Quigg, Tom Ward, Donald Hay (drums) and narration by Iain Anderson.

On January 21st 2012 the show will be performed in Glasgow at the Royal Concert Hall on Sauchiehall Street.Tickets are £13.

Any former Preston Lodge Pal seeking more information or interested in attending the show should speak to Mrs Binnie or Ms Duthie who can provide further details.

We’re here because we’re here…

We will remember them…

This week we will be remembering those who are less fortunate than ourselves when we commemorate Remembrance Day in our House Assemblies.

Cameron Black and Katie Lynch (both of 6Grange2) will lead the assemblies and explain

  • why we wear poppies to remember the casualties of war
  • how you can pay your respects or contribute to the work of the Poppy Appeal

They will also show footage from last year’s Battlefields experience and Preston Lodge’s excellent contribution to the nightly Menin Gate Last Post ceremony.

Thank you for, as ever, showing your respect.

House Rugby – Seniors Competition!

The House Captains are pleased to announce that the next house sporting event will take place on Thursday November 10th at 1pm when Senior School rugby sides from each house go head to head in pursuit of the title “Inter House Rugby Champions”.

Pupils from S5 and S6 who are interested in playing should speak to Michael McKirdy (Seton), Blair Robertson (Grange) or Finlay Hughes (Gosford) – or feel free to approach any of the other house captains, who will point you in the right direction.

Some of the said motley crew are pictured above playing for our local club side, Preston Lodge RFC – come along and give them your support on the 10th!

As it stands the experts are predicting a Grange win this time out but, as we discovered with the football, favourites don’t always prevail. Make sure you don’t miss out on yet another fantastic event organised for you to enjoy by your House Team!

HOUSE CAPTAIN’s MEETING – Wednesday October 26th 2011

House Captains should be reminded that, because of the Monday In Service day the House Committee/Captains Meeting will be on Wednesday October 26th at 1pm in LZ 5.

This will allow us to review the I’m a Panner event and discuss the forthcoming House Assemblies (next week). Jenna has kindly taken home photos from the last event to use in a powerpoint for assemblies but all captains are asked to attend this meeting as per usual.
