I just wanted to pass on a big thanks to the pupils and staff who put up with me popping in to their classes and asking questions as part of my ‘evaluation visit’ on Thursday 21st February. I saw some great learning and teaching going on and the pupils I talked to all spoke highly of the support they get from their teachers.
It was a pleasure to be in the school – I look forward to my next visit.

The purpose of the evening was to give students and parents information about the options available and the process to be completed re choices for senior courses. A good number of parents and students attended.

What a great evening! The 2008 Burns Supper was held in the school hall on Thursday 7th Feb.

The turnout for the S2 Parent Information Evening was very good. The purpose was to provide Parents/Carers with information about the Subject Choice process.
Mr.Bell gave a short presentation about the pupil programme in SE lessons and the support that can be offered to the young people in making these choices.
Gill Pert (Careers Advisor) also gave a presentation on the the role of Careers Scotland. In this presentation she gives advice and information on various websites that can be accessed for additional help in making these choices.
Mr.Stewart explained how the Options form should be completed DON’T tick the boxes – give your order of preference from 1 to 5 plus a reserve (6).

‘On-Our-Doorstep’ cook club held the competition final last night, with fourteen S2 pupils competing. They worked exceptionally hard during the 1 hour 30 minutes allocated to them to produce an exceptionally high standard of finished dish.
They were complimented by the 6 external judges who are all local produce suppliers from within East Lothian.

A BBC cameraman and journalist were in the school today to interview pupils for a National News story about the teaching of History and in particular Scottish History. They were interested to talk to pupils about their knowledge of local history events of national significance ie The Battle of Prestonpans.
The interviews were broadcast this evening at 6.30pm in “Reporting Scotland”

This week as we look to celebrate the birthday of the national bard, Robert Burns, the ELP pupils have chosen to read and discuss a poem called Black Gold. This poem was written by Prestoungrange Poet Laureate, John Lindsay, to mark Burn’s Night 2006.

The Home Economics department has been running an after school cook club for a few months now. It was open to any S2/3 pupils to participate. Almost 30 registered with between 20 – 26 turning up each week.
The aim was to source local produce from within East Lothian. We were delighted with the support we received from local businesses in the area. Each recipe was designed to include one or more food items from the area.
Pupils became aware of what could be sourced so close to home and benfited from 1st class fresh produce from the suppliers. Each week it was recorded on an East Lothian map to identify the spread avaiable.
The 30th of January is the final night with 14 of the pupils competing in a practical cookery competition to produce a ‘main meal for 2 people using local produce’. 6 of our suppliers are acting as judges that evening which will show a vast array of talent and culinary delights.
Our thanks must go to all who supported the club, especially the local suppliers. Well done to all who participated.
