Using the Library

The Library is open to ALL years from: 8:30 to 8:39am, from 1.15 to 1.45pm and  from 3:45 to 4:30pm. On Tuesdays from 1.15-1.45 access is limited to S1/S2 only.

Space is limited so the library assistants on duty will monitor the number of people in the library and may turn you away if it is too busy. The Library is supposed to be a quiet place – there are ALWAYS people who are studying so if you’re in the Library, please keep the noise down!

Seniors have access to the Library at any reasonable time, but must co-exist peacefully with the other users. When the library has been booked by a teacher for a whole class, the library is closed to all other users. If the library PCs have been booked by a teacher, the library study areas can still be used but you MUST respect the other users.

Borrowing: 1st years to 4th years may borrow 2 items at once, for a period of 3 weeks.  5th and 6th years may borrow up to 6 items each, for a period of 3 weeks.  Textbooks are issued for one term at a time.
If no-one is at the desk, please fill in the form giving your name, registration class, the book’s barcode (usually inside the front cover) and the book title.

Returning books: if no-one is at the desk, you can either put books in the Book Return box outside the Library door, or leave them on the front desk. Please don’t put them back on the shelves!!

Reservations: you can ask Ms King to reserve a book form another East Lothian library for you. Or, if you know your borrower number and PIN, you can use the online catalogue at https://capitadiscovery.co.uk/eastlothian/ to check on your loans, renew and reserve. This is a good way to search for books on Accelerated Reader as well. Just ask Ms King for help on how to do this.

Unreturned Books: Users will be expected to pay full replacement costs of any book/s they do not return!

Chess sets are available if you know how to play. If you don’t know how to play ask any 6th year and they will help you get started. If you want to play the S6 at chess just ask.

Available for Staff: Still Cameras, Flip Cameras, Video Cameras, Visualisers and Laptops. To borrow equipment you will need an active staff ID card. More information for staff is available via Subjects – Library – Staff.
