Who doesn’t love a book with a spectacularly evil baddie? Beetle Boy has one of the best. Darkus has to solve the mystery of what has happened to his scientist father. Aided by some wonderful beetles, and some human friends he embarks on his rescue mission. This gloriously surreal story is written with great style and confidence.

I thought Beetle Boy was an amazing book probably one of the best books I have ever read. I compare it to some of Roald Dahl’s writing because it is fantasy yet almost believable.
I think it is an amazing book. I love how Darkus and his friends all have very special beetle companions in the end. All the characters have wonderful personalities and Lucretia Cutter is a one-of-a-kind baddie. There are lots of happy/funny moments in it but also some dark, scary and dramatic parts too. I recommend this book for children in P5-P7.
I give it 5 stars out of 5!
