December 14th, 2016 · 2 Comments · Reviews, UKLA

heartsongLaura lives a silent life in a Venetian orphanage until she meets the composer, Vivaldi. As the world of music is unfolded to her, her life is changed for ever. This is a short, beautifully written book which is enhanced by rich illustration. 18th Venice comes alive in both words and pictures as Laura moves beyond the orphanage that has been her whole world.

I liked this book a lot. It’s an easy read and it’s really beautiful – the words describe everything Laura does so well and the pictures are magnificent. It’s about a girl who is left at an orphanage in Venice and she becomes a daughter of music. She finds out she is really good at playing the flute. I could easily imagine the orphanage and her life. Some bits are sad and some bits are happy and I would recommend it to P4 upwards. I would give it 5 out of 5.
