Caitlin longs for a friend so when a tiny creature is washed up on the beach of her isolated home, she thinks she has found one. But Perijee grows, mutates and becomes the monster which the world expects. While offering a fast paced, original adventure, Ross Montgomery also gives opportunities for readers to think about how we are changed by expectations.

Millie, Rosie and Isla really enjoyed this book. It’s quite different because there is a friendship between an alien and a girl which gets stronger and stronger. The end was a bit sad but it is sometimes good not to have a perfect happy ending when you read a book. There are a lot of interesting characters with strong personalities and the bad people are a group of old ladies with a clan tattoo which was a bit weird! It’s quite dark at times and would be better for children in P5 – 7. It was hard to put the book down.
We would all give it 5/5 stars!
Emily P5C didn’t like it because it was a bit random the way the characters jumped about from one scene to another. I did like the friendship theme and that Caitlin made a friend because she had always found it hard to make a friend before. I didn’t manage to finish it. I would give it 3.5/5 stars.
I think this is a very good book and that everyone should pick it up and have a look at it because it is so amazing! I really liked the way good nice people were unexpectedly bad to the main character Caitlin. There was only one illustration at the end apart from the stars at the start of each chapter. I would give it 5 out of 5.
I really enjoyed this book because I liked the way Caitlin risked her life for one friend that she’d only been friends with for about a week. I stayed up till about 9 o’clock reading it because I really wanted to know what happened next. I’d give it a definite 5 out of 5!
