Celebrating Reading Success

Reading Awards 4

The English department, school librarian Mrs Lumsden  and the staff of Ross High have worked hard this session to improve pupil engagement with personal reading . Last session just 40 million words had been read by pupils through Accelerated Reader. Already this session pupils have doubled that figure to over 86 million and we are continuing to win the” reading war” against Knox Academy. Our pupils have now read nearly 2000 books!

At the end of term, the library hosted a Celebration of Reading for almost 60 pupils who have successfully completed awards for ‘Reading for Gold’ and also those who have read over 1 million words in the Accelerated Reading programme.

Reading Awards 2

Already this year 36 pupils have completed their ‘Reading for Gold’ Bronze award; 2 have completed the ‘Reading for Gold’ Silver award; and we now have 18 Reading Millionaires  (including some double and triple millionaires) from Accelerated Reader.

Well done to all our pupils on becoming more avid readers. Let’s aim for the 100 million word mark by the summer break – less than 20 million words to go!
