Scottish Schools Swimming Championships Finals

Tollcross, Glasgow Saturday 29th January 2011

On Saturday, months after battling through regional qualifiers, 6 girls & 7 boys represented  East Lothian Secondary Schools in the Scottish Schools Swimming Championship Finals at Tollcross, Glasgow.

Congratulations to all who got this far, in the face of very tough competition with hundreds of entrants in each event, hailing  from Shetland to Dumfies. Only the 20 fastest children across the country were selected to compete in each final, with a maximum of two events each.

All our swimmers, who train for either East Lothian Swim Team or Warrender Baths Club* train between 12 and 20 hours a week, before and after school. It’s great to see their hard work and commitment being rewarded:

The swim of the day for me was Chloe McCallum (2W2) from Tranent, she took 3 seconds off her PB, finishing 7th in the 100m Freestyle and she also achieved her Scottish National time which now allows her to Swim at the Nationals in Glasgow in April 2011. She punched the air and cheered like she’d won Olympic Gold, then couldn’t walk when she dragged herself out the pool!! Super achievement for someone who has only been doing the sport competitively for a year now.

Christmas Fair

On Saturday 11th December, Ross High School held its annual Winter Fair.  The event was organised by the Fundrasing Group and the S4 year group as part of their Standard Grade SVS course.  There were many, many stalls including Tombola, Lucky Dip, Face Painting, home Baking and Sponge the Teacher.  The event raised over £900 for the school which is excellent news.
