Last week the pupils of P6/7 had a great time entertaining our parents with songs from Vera Lynn – We’ll Meet Again and White Cliffs of Dover – and dancing the Jitterbug! Pupils came in costume from the era and staff got dressed up too. They snacked on chocolate cake made with rationed ingredients….yum yum!

Last week p5/6/7 watched a video called Child 31, the class took this very seriously and they now want to sponsor a school in Malawi. It is going to cost us £6000 and we already have £5 only £5995 to go.

As part of our global citizenship project “Send My Friend to School” we had a visit from Mrs Fiona O’Donnell (MP). We have been working on messages to send David Cameron and other world leaders on the issue of “Education for All” We prepared presentations, refreshments(delicious smoothies) and questions. Murdo P4 remarked: “she was down to earth”. Another pupil commented on the fact they felt their opinion was heard. Fiona told us about her work on this campaign and about her job in Westminster. We grilled her with questions and she even told us her favourite sweet. You will need to ask someone from P4-7 for Fiona’s response!

The eco committee have been discussing the idea of having some fruit only days for snack. We first discussed this during health week as a way of encouraging our 5 a day of fruit and veg. Yesterday it caused some debate. Each rep was to poll their pals to gauge opinion. Next week the Eco committee hope to make a recommendation after their consultation. What do you think have having a fruit/veg snack only day in school on a regular basis? Would you commit to a 2 day week? 3 day? It has been an interesting debate in class too.

Science in classes
P1/2 used microscopes to look closely at their finger marks to see what type they are. They are making blue prints for vechiles and making strong structures from triangle shapes.
Nursery made little paper snakes and put stings on them and learnt about magnetism and sinking and floating in the water tray.
P3/4 made a K’nex model that can hold a pencil pot as well as looking at bugs that they caught in the min beast garden

Static Electricity Snakes by the Nursery
In P4567 we did some investigation when we had to find out: “Who ate all the Biscuits?” We found out by splitting colour how to discover which pen the culprit used. We also looked at fingerprints and matched all the staff to the culprits. We used a microscope to find out the hairs that matched.
This morning we heard about science in the news, this happened in all the classes.
At lunch time we made paper aeroplanes there were 5 designs to choose from. We could also play with propeller toys.
