This week Nursery and P1/2/3 are celebrating the Chinese New Year Festival together. Today we made a Chinese Dragon that we will be dancing with later in the week. In each classroom we have different active learning areas set up. We have a construction area where we are building the Great Wall of China. Both rooms have a Chinese Cafe. We also made playdough with Chinese spices. On Friday in P1/2/3 we are having a Chinese Banquet to sample different foods and in Nursery this is ongoing thoughout the week.
Last week was a busy week at Saltoun celebrating Robert Burn’s birthday. The nursery made tartan weavings and painted tartan. In P1/2/3 we listened to Tam O’Haggis and had a Burn’s Supper on Friday 25th January. The school also had a singing and poetry competition. The nursery class and P1/2/3 have been learning about the Hindu festival of light – Divali.
At assembly today the nursery played some indian music using an indian drum and other instruments. Dexter very kindly brought the drum in from home.
P1/2/3 have been learning the story of Rama and Sita and customs associated with the festival. They have made rangoli patterns, diva lamps, indian sweeties and shadow puppets. They used their shadow puppets today to tell the story of Rama and Sita at assembly.
Feel free to look at our Divali work which is displayed in the classrooms and corridors.
Last week the nursery went for a walk in Strawberry Woods. They went to look for signs of Autumn. They have been doing lots of art and craft activities related to Autumn. They have made hedgehogs, finger painted trees and pastel leaves.
