Book Party!!

Help us to celebrate World Book Day on Thursday 6th March.  Come to school dressed as a character from your favourite book.  If this is not possible just bring along the book and you can take part in the Great Book Swap!  Keep looking at this post and we will add photos after the event.

The Book Party was a great success!  People made a huge effort to dress up as a character from their favourite book.  We celebrated World Book Day at assembly and some girls from the P4/5/6/7 class provided us with party food.  They even decorated the fairy cakes with the names of different authors.  Some pupils have swapped books at our official Book Swap which was organised by Katie, Daisy and Chantelle.

Kung Hey Fat Choy!

This week Nursery and P1/2/3 are celebrating the Chinese New Year Festival together.  Today we made a Chinese Dragon that we will be dancing with later in the week.  In each classroom we have different active learning areas set up.  We have a construction area where we are building the Great Wall of China.  Both rooms have a Chinese Cafe.  We also made playdough with Chinese spices.  On Friday in P1/2/3 we are having a Chinese Banquet to sample different foods and in Nursery this is ongoing thoughout the week.

Christmas Puppet Show

Today Sylvia came to visit Saltoun Primary School.  Sylvia is a puppeteer and story teller.   She set up her puppets and props in Fletcher Hall.  Everyone went to watch and listen to Sylvia.  She told 3 different stories and then gave us a chance to make up our own mini puppet shows.  Look at the fun we had!

Divali Celebrations at Saltoun

diva-lamp.jpgThe nursery class and P1/2/3 have been learning about the Hindu festival of light – Divali.
At assembly today the nursery played some indian music using an indian drum and other instruments. Dexter very kindly brought the drum in from home.
P1/2/3 have been learning the story of Rama and Sita and customs associated with the festival. They have made rangoli patterns, diva lamps, indian sweeties and shadow puppets. They used their shadow puppets today to tell the story of Rama and Sita at assembly.
Feel free to look at our Divali work which is displayed in the classrooms and corridors.

Strawberry Woods
