Primary 1 deferrals for August 2022

Arrangements for primary 1 deferrals for children due to start school in August 2022 have been published. Applications are invited before 25 February 2022. Application forms are available from council nursery settings and funded providers. The council has agreed to fund an additional year of early learning and childcare for children who turn 5 between 18 August 2022 and 28 February 2023 where it is in the child’s best interests to defer beginning primary 1. Full information is available from the council’s website.

Survey: 1140 hours in East Lothian

The council has launched a survey to understand how the expansion of funded early learning and childcare (1140 hours) is working for parents and carers in East Lothian.

The online survey asks questions about the model of hours your child receives, the setting that they attend, and your priorities when choosing how to use their entitlement. It will also ask how well 1140hours supports the Scottish Government’s aims for its introduction.

This information will be used to reflect on the introduction of 1140 hours in East Lothian and plan future provision.

Parents and carers of children who receive 1140hours of early learning and childcare either in a council setting, funded nursery, childminder or community group are invited to take part.

Complete the online survey from the Consultation Hub before it closes on 9 February 2022.

Active Schools

Active Schools Tranent are delighted to release the new timetable for Term 2.  It is important to note that these clubs will become available over the next couple of weeks to sign up.  Please keep an eye on the page for availability.

Updates to current Covid19 restrictions means that schools can only provide sports within their bubble.  This means pupils in P1 can only mix with pupils in P1 within their class.  This may alter slightly from school to school due to mixed P1/2 classes and so on. Due to these restrictions we have had to reduce or alter the school club availability to ensure as many pupils as possible can safely access sport.

We are always looking for new opportunities in the area, if you would like to try volunteering then please get in touch.  You do not need to have any experience, just a keen interest in helping pupils get active.

If you would like to see what is available, then please follow the below link for dates and times as well as the attached PDF.

Thank you as always for supporting Active Schools Tranent.

COVID-19 Omicron

As you may be aware from the news, a more precautionary approach is currently being taken for the new variant of COVID-19 ‘Omicron’, until more information is gathered about this variant. Therefore, this may mean a change in the way that the ‘close contacts’ of people who test positive for the new variant are identified, and what advice is given to them. Please pay attention to any updates from the school, and check the NHS inform website (https://www.nhsinform.scot/illnesses-and-conditions/infections-and-poisoning/coronavirus-covid-19/test-and-protect/coronavirus-covid-19-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-infection) for more information.

Tell us your views

The council is sharing detailed information on its school buildings with a new website giving a full picture of its estate at individual school, cluster and East Lothian level.

The website – www.eastlothian.gov.uk/ler – brings together information on the condition, suitability and capacity of existing schools and the council is keen to hear the views of families, communities and learners.

This is part of the development of a Learning Estate Investment Plan for East Lothian. The plan will set out the council’s investment priorities for its schools to make sure that all facilities support high quality teaching and learning equally across the county, and to outline the investment needed for this to happen. It will also consider how school buildings support community use.

The feedback will be analysed alongside the results of the online questionnaire that was held in February and presented at a future council meeting. For more information, including dates of event in your area and a link to the questionnaire, visit www.eastlothian.gov.uk/ler

The pre-consultation will close on 10 December 2021.
