Victorian Day at Hopetoun House

P4T experienced a wonderful , interactive trip to the very grand Hopetoun House in South Queensferry. Dressed in  period costume, the class took on the role of servants to discover what life was really like ‘below stairs’ in Victorian times. As you can see from the photos, we were kept very busy cleaning, polishing, flat ironing and butter making in the Butler’s Pantry. Everybody had to work very hard to impress the housekeepers and butlers and when we had completed our tasks, we used a quill pen to write home to inform our parents that we had secured positions as servants working for the Lord and Lady of Hopetoun House.
