This term we will be learning about Scotland. Here in P4 we are focusing on our local environment. We will be using maps to help us get out and about to look at different types of housing, businesses and services. We will also be learning about Scottish culture, music, stories and celebrations.
On Monday we went to Hirsel farm in Coldstream. We made pizza but they were healthy and we looked round the farm. We saw highland cows and learned about where our food comes from. It was really fun. On Tuesday we made cards for our buddies to say thank you for being a good buddy then we went to music we played the ukulele. After lunch Miss Waddell came to take us for a little while. On Wednesday we had assembly WELL DONE to Fallon for being star of the week. On Thursday we played rounders for our secret student reward and later we were watching Miss Robertson playing netball, her team came second. At P.E we played netball because we wanted to learn how to play. On Friday we had a party for the last week of buddies. We all dressed up and we played games and had a picnic on the carpet. Miss Robertson has told us we can teach a lesson to the class next week on something we have learned this year – we are not allowed to give red cards though!

On Friday we made human body models for homework and surprisingly they ended up at the front of the school for everybody to see! We are getting to take them home tomorrow. On Tuesday we went to primary games for our trip and we did events and we saw the baton up close and saw Clyde. It was really fun and Miss Robertson said we were fantastic so we were all stars of the weeks and got a bit of choosing time to celebrate. On Wednesday we made are our own stories that we could write anything we wanted in them because we got our last piece of assessed writing finished last week – we like when we get to choose in writing. On Monday we wrote a letter to Ms Waddell asking to do some fun things in the last week. On Wednesday we showed off more of our talents so Macy and Anna dancing to will.iam’s Bang Bang. They were great!

We have had a VERY busy week this week. Over the last 5 weeks P4M have been making our own human body to present them to our class. We had a lot of fun making them and showing them to our class and our buddy class. 1st place was Eilidh, 2nd Place was David, 3rd Place was Kaare who all got a book about our bodies. Luke, Anna, Jay and Marcus received runner up prizes from the treasure box and everyone who took part won a small prize too! Well done to everyone who took part. You all did a wonderful job and Miss Robertson is very proud of you! On Tuesday half of the class performed the plays they have been working on while the other half were at recorders. They were very funny. We learnt a bit about the baton relay and will see it next week on our trip to Meadowmill. On Monday we had sports day but it started to rain so we had to cancel it. We were very wet! On Wednesday we did maths with smarties. We got a packet of smarties and made a bar graph to show what colours we had. After we got to eat them! At assembly children from every class got up to show off a talent and Kaare did a comedy act, it was really funny. We have been playing cricket in P.E. We also kept working on our PowerPoints and learned how to add extra slides and videos if we wanted one. Well done to our star this week Marcus!

On Monday we started our PowerPoints about the human body. On Tuesday we were playing mathletics because we didn’t get it on Monday and the highest scorer in P4 was Anna, WELL DONE ANNA! Then we went to drama to do our plays they are nearly finished. On Wednesday after lunch we did the secret student task which David earned for us which involved chocolate and marshmallows. What you do:
You will need one tin (get a hammer and 1 nail and make holes around 10 to 15 holes) tin foil, candles, chocolate, marshmallows, kebab sticks and a lighter.
1 get your foil and fold it 2 times
2 then get your tin and wrap the foil around the bottom of the tin but leave a handle to hold it
3 then get your candle put it the tin and light the candle
4 put your little foil pan on top of the tin
5 then get your chocolate and put it in and leave it to melt but don’t forget to keep lifting it up to give the candle oxygen
6 Once your chocolate has melted, dip your marshmallows in and enjoy! But don’t burn down the house – so get an adult to help you!
On Thursday we had rugby, it was our last week which is a bit sad. We are looking forward to sports day on Monday. It’s at 1.30pm. Well done to our star this week, Jack.

This week in P4 we had a visitor called Donna, a transplant nurse, who was talking about vital organs and we had done a PowerPoint on it before with the teacher so we knew some things already. Our topic is the body so we are doing a presentation on a part of the body in I.C.T with a partner, we can find out more information at home if we want to bring it in. Last week we went to the P1/2 assembly about their topic which was school in the past and the present. It was really good and we answers all the questions correctly. In music we were learning about ukuleles and there is a song called ‘g c e a’ four strings we play these as we tune our ukuleles every day. Also in music we were learning recorders, we learnt a song called ‘glory b’ and we learned about a tune called ‘bbb’.We have a thing in our class called secret student this week if we win it we will get to do stuff involving fire, marshmallows and chocolate. In drama we are writing our own plays. We watched a video about the heart too. Did you know that the right side of the brain is the creative and the left side is the logical side? Also did you know that the heart pumps your blood to your lungs to get oxygen and picks up carbon dioxide to take back to your lungs?
Well done to the star of the week, Neve.

On Tuesday last thing we do recorders and drama, half of the class do recorder, the other half do drama and at music after break we all got to play the ukulele. A special cricket player came in to show us how to play cricket. It was really really fun. Well done to Rebecca and Anna for getting in the final of the cricket game. We did mathletics, well done to Rebecca for most points in the class last week. Our new topic the human body is very fun every week we do a different part of the body and work on it . This week we checked the bones (We ran out of time last Friday!) so we put a chicken bone in vinegar to get the calcium out and Fallon pulled it out of the cup and it went SPLAT all over Miss Robertson! It went all squishy without calcium. The other bone was put in the oven for 20 minutes to take some of the 75% water out of it and it snapped straight away by the slight touch of a hand. On Wednesday we did writing and it took a long time to do the start because we kept making them better and better. Today rugby was cancelled because of the weather, we were all very sad except Kaare! This morning we had art with Miss Robertson. We made skeleton hands using straws, string and card to show how our hands work. We have a special visitor coming in next Monday to teach us a bit more about our bodies. Well done to our star this week, Abi.

On Tuesday we had music and we did recorder and it was fun and we did the body. On Wednesday assembly was about the school toys and after the assembly we did the body and we learnt the proper names of our bones. We did planning for writing in groups and the teacher said we worked really well together. Rugby was really good fun today and we started writing a scary story! Well done to our star this week Demi-Leigh.

Last week we had a session learning a bit about rugby and we had straps around our waist we had tags on our straps. We loved it. After it was home time. Yesterday we did book reports on our class novel in the shape of a cheeseburger. Next we put a bone in vinegar and in the oven and we are going to find out what happens when we take away the calcium and when we take away some of the water. A bone is actually 75% water. We will check them on Friday. We have been doing very good in mathletics we are the highest scoring class in the ross high cluster. On Friday at buddies we are getting baby chicks in and we are going to get to hold them! Well done to our star this week Ebony.

P4M are very excited about the term ahead. Our new topic will be The Human Body (start collecting junk for some interesting homework activities) and the children are very excited about this, they particularly want to know more about the brain and digestive system. The whole class will be learning the recorder with Ms Peebles for 5 week blocks starting next Tuesday. We have a visiting specialist on Thursday afternoons to teach us rugby starting next week and later on in May Michael Powell, the former England player, will be visiting to teach us a thing or two about cricket! In drama we have been looking at plays and the children are looking forward to creating their own plays to perform to the rest of the class. The school is starting a mathletics competition next week which we are looking forward to winning (fingers crossed!) Well done to Aimee for being our Star of the Week this week.
We would just like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped us beat our target to raise £300 for Cash for Kids. We had great fun writing and recording our song and we hope you enjoy listening to it!
