We have been having a great time at camp and we have been doing lots fun activities

Today we have been on a forest walk, a zip-wire and have done problem solving  in our groups.  On the zip-wire everyone had a great time and were howling like wolves, but it was pretty scary!!

In the evening we did a scavenger hunt and did a water balloon challenge.  The camp leaders dropped our water balloons from the top of the building and only 2 survived!!

We have made lots of new friends in our dorms and we wanted to make friendship bracelets for them.

We are looking forward to a great day tomorrow!

Bob Clelland, retired janitor of Tranent Primary, kindly offered to help the eco committee to build a plastic bottle greenhouse.  He masterminded the design and worked with different groups of children to complete it.  All the children brought in 2 litre plastic bottles, nearly 1800 of them, and under Bob’s guidance cut them to the required size.  The children then put the bottles onto canes and fixed them to the framework.  The whole project only took 4 weeks thanks to Bob.

P4T enjoyed a fantastic day at Hirsel Estate, Coldstream in Berwickshire, learning about farming and the ‘farm to fork’ process. As well as finding out about the crops and food grown on the estate, we had great fun running through the enormous maize fields, beside stalks 9 feet tall, and hiding inside the ‘Magic Tree’!  We picked maize and enormous sunflowers and also fed the highland cows. We even had time to make tasty apple scones to take home! A very active and informative day and a brilliant experience! Highly recommended for a family day trip!

Although many pupils said they didn’t like brown bread, in a class blind tasting experiment, we discovered that most children couldn’t tell the difference between white and brown bread!

As part of our class topic ‘Planet Food’, we  have been learning about many of the everyday products that are made from wheat. Pupils followed the stages of the grain chain (farming, harvesting, milling, baking) and watched video clips of real farmers and millers at work. The children were amazed at how many loaves of bread are turned out every day in the factory. We then made our own bread rolls. Our classroom became a mini bread factory for the day and with so much dough, we ended up with lots and lots of rolls. The whole corridor smelled of freshly baked bread. They were delicious, and were definitely given the thumbs up by the class. Yum! Yum!

P4T had a great morning making Pizzas at Dominos Pizza Take-away, in Musselburgh. They were shown how to knead and stretch the dough before adding tomato sauce and their chosen topping. A favourite moment, apart from eating their pizzas, was flipping the pizza dough in the air! Fortunately nobody’s ended up on the floor!

P4T would like to thank Mr Woods, manager of Tranent Co-operative, for allowing us to do a bag pack on Sat 27th Sep, to raise money (to pay for a coach) for an educational trip to the Hirsel Estate, Berwickshire. The co-op is involved with this farm in a  ‘Farm to Fork’ project to help children to learn where their food comes from. The pupils had great fun packing people’s shopping bags and they did a great job too.  On Monday, the children spent almost an hour counting out 6 collecting buckets of money. Thank you to Tranent public for their generous donations in our buckets which raised a staggering £370.08!
