ECHC Pilot taking place in Tranent

Children and young people in Scotland are facing a mental health crisis.

ECHC research found that over half (59%) of families in Scotland have a child who has experienced a mental health concern at some point in their life.

Overwhelmingly, families we’ve spoken to feel that they have nowhere to turn, no one to tell them they’re doing a good job, and no access to support or advice. We believe this is not right, and we need to change it.

That’s why this Mental Health Awareness Week, we are announcing our new pilot service – No Time To Wait which aims to tackle this growing crisis.

Starting this summer, it will be piloted in Tranent, East Lothian for two years, and offer a therapeutic drop-in space with creative interventions such as leisure, art, activities, family support and youth work. Every family will have a ‘Pal’; a trained team member who can support them along their child’s mental health journey.

It will be modelled on our existing Hospital Hub, which delivers similar interventions to children and families visiting the RHCYP. At its best, it may negate a family’s need for future access to medical support, alleviating the pressures on CAMHS.

“It takes a village to heal a child. Right now, there is no village. Just exhausted parents.”

Children and families are telling us that there’s no support available, so we’re stepping up to do something about it.

There’s no more time to wait. Together, we can help every child struggling with their mental health.

Sports Day 2023

Dear Parents/Carers

Sports’ Day will be held on Thursday 1st June and will involve all pupils from P1 to P7.  Some important information to note about the day:

All pupils should arrive at school for the usual time of 8:55am and go up to their class.  Our school sports is set up as a number of different activities which take place in a circle on the school field. We will be setting up equipment on the grass from 8:00am and would appreciate your support in keeping all pupils off the grass, making sure that they use the footpath to access the school playground.

P1, P2 and P3 Sports

After registration P1-3 classes will assemble on the grass beside the playground and the event will begin at 9:30am.  We expect to finish at about 10:45am.  At the end of the sporting events, pupils will be escorted back to class by their teacher and parents and carers will leave by one of the main routes.

P4, P5, P6 and P7 Sports

This will begin at 1:45pm and finish around 3:00pm.  Again, after the event parents and carers can leave by one of the main gates and pupils will be escorted back to class.  If parents of pupils in P4-7 wish to collect their child at 3pm, please alert the class teacher and wait in the main playground so that pupils can first collect their belongings from the classroom where they will be de-registered before they leave.

Parking

Please note that there is no available parking within the school grounds and parking near the school is extremely limited by double yellow lines.  Please avoid blocking the access for local residents around the school.  E-scooters are not permitted within the school grounds.

Sports Wear and water bottles

Pupils should come to school dressed in an outdoor sports kit (wearing house colours if possible – Seton; green, Hailes; red, Fa’side; blue and Winton; yellow) with appropriate outdoor trainers.  Football strips/colours are not acceptable as part of the kit.  As the weather is unpredictable please provide a jumper and a coat for your child and a hat and sunscreen if sunny.  If weather is inclement please also provide a change of clothes so children can change into dry kit if required.

Please ensure that your child has a full water bottle for the day.

Please note that East Lothian Council prohibits smoking (including e-cigarettes) and the consumption of alcohol in the school grounds.  Dogs are not permitted to enter the school grounds.

We hope that the weather will not let us down, but in the event that we have to cancel Sports Day parents will be notified by text message before 9am.

We are looking forward to seeing you all on the day!
