P2P got together with our P5 buddies yesterday for a bit of parachuting fun in the scorching East Lothian sun! We had great fun and it was a lovely way to celebrate the end of the year with our special buddies.
Parents, staff and pupils at Sanderson’s Wynd have been working really hard to get our new library lending system installed. Thank you to all the parents from P2P who have volunteered this term! To celebrate all the progress we’ve made yesterday our class worked with our buddies to unroll our new colourful library carpet which features Dewey Decimal classifications with corresponding images. We all loved sitting on the new carpet to share our own books with our P5 buddies.
As part of our alien story writing we have watched bits of the movie ET to inspire us. Today we worked in small groups with Bee Bots and pretended that they were ET. We chose a location for ET’s mother ship to hide and then programmed the Bots to reach that destination. It was loads of fun and ET was mostly successful!
Today Mrs. Claire Gobourn came to speak to Primary 2P on behalf of Save the Children. She told us about the work that StC does both in Britain and around the world. She gave us a really good idea of how our donation might be used to help children in crisis situations. We presented her with the total amount we raised from the sales of our Kindle e-book on Amazon, which was £47.50, including a contribution from author Stephen Leather. We really enjoyed Mrs. Gobourn’s talk–a big thank you to her for coming to share with us!
Yesterday Primary 2P were so excited about our new Worm Cafe. Alex from P6 came down to set it up for us. He assembled it and got the coir filling ready. He helped us add the worms and then we added some banana skins to enjoy. We can’t wait to add the next layer to our cafe!
Today we opened up our classroom to family and friends to share our new books. Parents, carers, other family members and staff came to hear our young authors read their latest books, which were about meeting aliens. They wrote book reviews together and then made alien masks. Thank you to everyone who joined in our fun this afternoon. Both pupils and teacher really appreciate your support!
We have been working really hard on our Alien stories for two weeks now. Some of us have nearly finished the writing. Tomorrow we will be creating our book covers with an eye-catching design on the front and a blurb on the back. Here is a sneak preview from one of our amazing authors:
We have been working very hard writing our alien stories over the last two weeks. We will be finishing this week and making our stories into books. Our two book launches will be Thursday, 23.6.11 at 2:00pm and Friday, 24.6.11 at 11:00 am. If you have not already done so, please let me know when you would like to attend. The authors are very excited about sharing their books with you! If you are not able to attend, please let me know and I will send your child’s book home for you to enjoy and review at home.
We are creating our own books this term. We have chosen to write about alien encounters. We have completed our About the Author pages and have just begun to develop our characters. Have a look at our author display in our story corner.
We have been following news of the Endeavour’s mission since it was launched and our own one-man version of the space shuttle is nearly ready. Have a look below.
