The school Junior Road Safety Officers have been very busy this year, introducing themselves at assemblies and taking part in travel surveys. Click the link below to find out more about their latest event, the ‘Be Bright, Be Seen’ day!
Have you met this year’s JRSOs? Say hello to the gang – Owen, Tiegan, Ava and Jake!
They have been busy visiting each class and introducing themselves and taking part in official travel surveys, as well as meeting regularly to discuss plans for the year. One of their plans was a ‘Be Bright, Be Seen’ day to make people aware that the evenings are darker a lot earlier now and boys and girls outside playing or on their bikes need to wear brighter clothes to stand out! The JRSOs stayed in over break and lunch to complete some posters for the event:
The response from the school was fantastic! The school even spent the morning practicing the nativity songs in their bright clothes, the movement and dance room has never looked so colourful. The JRSOs then went around the classrooms telling boys and girls about the importance of bright clothes, even comparing bright colours and dark colours that they were wearing:
With the help of the class teachers, the JRSOs decided on three children from each class before picking a winner from each class and a winner for the whole school! Here were some of the shortlists:
The JRSOs then chose Ethan, Isla, Chloe, Isaac and Blyth as the class winners, with Blyth being the overall winner of the brightest in the school! The winners got a lucky dip in the JRSO goodie bag and will have their pictures put on the JRSO display. Blyth will also get a special certificate next week!
Well done to all who took part and showing how safety conscious we are in St. Marys!
