One of our challenges this week was to work with a partner to try and create a Christmas thought for every letter of the alphabet. We were to include interesting adjectives and phrases, an idiom, and a line from a song related to Christmas. We then used our I.T time to create a ‘Wordle’ using the site www.wordle.net and made our own animated images to make our wordles sparkle! Here are just a few of them……
As part of our preparations for our Christmas Fair, (and also to coincide with St. Andrew’s Day), the boys and girls used a computer program, www.tartanmaker.com to create their own tartan. First of all, they selected 4 coloured beads, then selected colours on tartan maker which would match well. We could then play about with the features to create a design we were happy with. We have used our designs to make keyrings to sell at the Christmas Fair.
Over the past few weeks in our I.T time, we have been looking at how to animate objects. The children made their own creatures using Autoshapes in a powerpoint presentation, changing one of the slides slightly, then uploaded the pictures into a program called picasion.com, which animated the images. Here are some of the results.
The children of Primary 5/6 are really enjoying their topic ‘setting up a new school’.
Recently an architect visited the classroom and showed us a lot of different images of buildings. We learned to look for beams, columns and trusses in buildings, and afterwards we explored engineering our own 3D objects to demonstrate strengthening. The children used their problem-solving strategies and the knowledge they had learned to construct their models. Only one or two buildings didn’t stand up, so we think we did really well!
