Snowy message from Mrs Cumming

Hello Everyone!

What an amazing few days of snow we have had! I hope everyone is enjoying the snow but keeping safe and warm at the same time. We have had so much snow where I live that it is now up to my shoulder on the road beside my house!

If anyone fancies staying inside over the next few days or is keen to do some extra practise for school then here are a few things you could be doing until we get back to school.

– Reading – you should have your reading packets/ AR books with you and I’m sure there are lots of books and other texts you could be reading at home. Reading is such an important skill so take just 20 minutes here and there to quietly read your book and enjoy a story in the warm!
– P4-7 Spelling Homework – You have your spelling homework that you can complete while you are off. You can do more than one of the suggested activities or why not look back over the last few weeks and practise all of the rules you have learned. This will give you an advantage in the Spelling Bee!
– Mathletics – I have updated all of your activities so there are plenty of new things for you to try. Get a headstart on our fractions, decimals and percentages topic, and revise measuring skills ready for a dinosaur challenge we will be doing when we get back to school. (P2-7)
– ‘Look at Me’ homework – complete your booklet by drawing the members of your family and making notes on their characteristics. Can you see which you have inherited from your family? P4-7, remember to look for a mix of inherited and non-inherited characteristics. If you would like to do any extra research, see if you can find out more about how DNA works in our bodies and write a short explanation in your own words. Here is a link to a website and a video that might help the big class!
What is Inheritance?

– One final idea! Why not keep a weekend snow diary? Keep a note of what the weather is doing and what things you have been up to in the snow. You can bring this in to school when we get back to share with everyone. Write carefully in sentences and think about VCOP! Add drawings or photos if you can and see how exciting you can make your snow diary.

Looking forward to seeing you all back at school soon! Stay safe and warm and enjoy the snow everyone.
