A Welcome from Mr Buchanan

I am delighted to welcome you to our school website. We are very proud of our school and delighted to share our news, our achievements and our work with you.

St. Gabriel’s RC Primary School and Nursery Class serves the town of Prestonpans and the surrounding area with pupils being transported from Cockenzie, Port Seton and Longniddry. The majority of our pupils transfer to Preston Lodge High School.

The school dates from 1967, a large scale internal improvement and extension was completed during session 2005-2006 including the construction of a new Nursery to accommodate 50 children in the morning and 50 in the afternoon.

We are fortunate to have spacious school grounds with three large tarmacadamed playgrounds and adjacent grassed areas with two football pitches and an activity trail. We are currently working hard with parents, pupils and members of the community to further develop our playgrounds and garden areas.

We have 7 primary classes and two nursery classes, both serving full time 1140 hours Nursery provision. There is significant house building in the area, which is likely to impact on the school roll over the next 10 years.

Information for During the Easter Holiday

With the current increase in Child Sexual Exploitation cases during the pandemic, here is an website which was shared on East Lothian’s most recent ‘Inform’ newsletter. Given that the holidays are about to start and contact with C&YP has been limited and fragmented for a long period of time I thought it appropriate to share it with you. This website is:

  • For age appropriate children, young people, parents/carers and staff
  • It offers explanations of what CSE is
  • Who is at risk – anyone – and how it can take place
  • Reminder for parents/carers about keeping your child/young person safe on line
  • Where to get help if you are worried
