Snow Day Activities

Hope you are all enjoying the snow – here are some activities which  you could be completing during your time off school:

Show Practise

P4-7: If you are inside keeping warm please keep on practising the songs for We Will Rock You (as we have missed a few rehearsals due to the snow! – The Show Must Go On! #Freddie Mercury)

World Book Day

As it is World Book Day, you could choose a book and complete on (or more) of these activities:

  • Design a new front cover for it
  • Write a review for the book (you could do this as a blog and put it on our website or Twitter)
  • Write an alternative ending for the story
  • Write a summary or create an illustration for your favourite part
  • Think of a super power that would help the main character in the story, then design a poster which illustrates the power and how they use it
  • Write a set of questions you could use if you were going to interview a character from the story (good one for P6!)

Writing

Write a story about a Beast from the East invading or attacking Tranent! Remember to include interesting descriptions of characters, setting and events.

Science

If you  feel like being creative and investigative in the snow you could carry out this insulation Science experiment:

  • Get 2 or 3 (or more) clear plastic cups and fill them with snow.
  • Wrap each cup in a different material (make sure you leave one with no wrapping – this is your control)
  • Observe how long it takes the snow to melt in the cups
  • The one which takes longest to melt has the best insulation

Maths

Try to get a bronze, silver or gold Mathletics certificate?!

Enjoy! 🙂  Mr Campbell

P4 Weekly Blog

We have really enjoyed doing the fun run everyday week (that we could when the weather let us!) Zoomba and Aerobics were great work outs and we liked the music and the moves. Visiting bowling club was great because we had a chance to roll the balls aiming at targets and trying to score points.  We researched different food groups (dairy / fruit and vegetables) and made posters and leaflets to show what we had learning. We hope we get to do sports day on Monday!

It was great fun doing our big write this because we were writing legends about the mystery cave.

It was nice having visitors for the opening morning, we hope you enjoyed it. We shared our learning, showing how much learning we had done and the progress we have made. We like the new layout of the MATs.

Have a nice weekend, see you on Monday. Primary 4

This week in maths we have been practising our division and times tables. We have been working out questions with remainders. If a number doesn’t divide into equal groups whatever is left is called a remainder. Some of us have also been practising subtracting, doubling and halving.

We have been practising reading out loud and adding expression by looking at the punctuation.

We have enjoyed decorating our medallions ready for the Summer Fair this afternoon. We hope you like them and we can sell them all.

There is going to be lots of things to do at the fair this afternoon, hope you enjoy it and have a nice weekend! P4

This week in maths we have been learning about 2D shapes and 3D objects, working out how many sides, faces, corners and edges the different shapes have got.

We have been building electric circuits using the Snap’n’Fix sets. We have been testing different materials to see if they make the circuit work by lighting the bulb up. If the circuit works the material is a conductor which means electricity can go through it. If it doesn’t work it is called an insulator  which means electricity doesn’t pass through it.

We have been working on answering questions in full sentences, some of the questions were quite hard. We read about St George and then answered questions about him. It was reading, writing and RME all at the same time.

Have a good bank holiday weekend! See you on Tuesday! Primary 4

P4 – Weekly Blog

Welcome back everybody, we hope you had a lovely Easter and a nice holiday.

Since we have been back, in maths we are learning about 2D shapes and 3D objects, we are learning all the different names of the shapes, identifying the shapes and working which ones were which.

We have been starting to learn tennis skills and rugby skills in P.E. the warm up game of tag and sharks and fishes was lots fun, you had to steal other peoples tags.

Have a nice weekend with your family! Primary 4

Primary 4 Class Blog

Hi! This week in numeracy, some of us were counting in 10s, on and off the decuple. In a maths and PE lesson, we estimated and measured how far we could jump. The groups were all working really hard!

In the BIG Write, we were writing a story about a child who is kidnapped by goblins and then a knight or jester comes to rescue them.

We have been doing lots of singing practice for the show! We have added some actions to the songs.

Thank you for reading our class blog!
