We had a very interesting visit to the museum. One of the things we were curious about is how we know so much about the Vikings. We realised that as well as written records of the time, a lot of evidence has been found through archaeology. This told us not only how they lived but where they lived.
The museum was full of Viking objects that had been found in Scotland. We were very lucky to have a flavour of Viking life!
SOC 1-02a By exploring places, investigating artefacts and locating them in time, I have developed an awareness of the ways we remember and preserve Scotland’s history.
SOC 1-04a I can compare aspects of people’s daily lives in the past with my own by using historical evidence or the experience of recreating an historical setting.
Primary Four have just put the finishing touches to their amazing animations. Our challenge was to create a short film based on an aspect of keeping healthy, whether by looking after our feelings or someone else’s , eating healthily or looking after our bodies. We had to work in groups, sharing out the work to make sure we got everything done, such as:
- backgrounds and characters
- script writing
- cameras and action!
I think that the results are fabulous – hope you agree!

Last week, on Thursday, 15 December, the whole school had a panto afternoon. The Nursery, Primary 1, Primary 2 and Primary 3 enjoyed a production of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ in the the school hall. Some bits were scary but it was fun all the same.
Primary 4 and 5 travelled to the Brunton Theatre in Musselburgh to see ‘Aladdin’. It was very funny and we even saw two of the Primary 4 boys on stage dancing. They were really good!
Primary 6 and 7 went to the King’s Theatre in Edinburgh to see ‘Cinderella’. Both classes had a great time and were amazed at the fantastic costumes and scenery.
Wonder what the panto will be next year?
Happy Christmas to everyone at St. Martin’s. Have a lovely holiday and I hope you all get the present you ask for. Be kind to your families and friends and try to be helpful at this very busy time of the year. On Christmas Day try to say a prayer to the Baby Jesus to help those people who may be feeling sad or lonely.
See you all in January. Happy New Year 2012!!!! From Mrs Sharp X
This morning we went to visit the Jackie Crookston Memorial Statue. It reminds us of the Tranent Massacre in 1797. This is when Jackie Crookston led a small army against the government. They wanted to stop people being forced to fight in the army. Unfortunatley Jackie Crookston died when fighting.
