· BIG TALK – please can we talk about ways we can reduce, reuse and recycle at home.

· Continue practising making times and converting between digital and analogue.
This week we have been using laptops to research and find out facts about Scottish inventors, and answering questions about them. In our BIG write we wrote stories about inventions we had made up. In science we have doing experiments with magnets to see how many paper clips they could pick up. We designed robots in art with Mrs Johnson linking it with our topic and the artist Leonardo Da Vinci.
In Maths we have been learning about time, looking at different clocks and times, we made our own clocks to help us tell the time. We have been thinking about the Act of Sorrow and practising our handwriting by writing it out.
We had our last lesson of swimming this week, it was fun and we got to play for the last part. We got to jump in the deep end and we all feel much more confident in the water. We would like to say thank you to Richard for helping us learn to swim and to Sheila, Mrs Fettes, Mrs Mercer and Mrs Pucko for taking along to the Loch Centre.
It was great having all the parents in for the open morning. We felt a bit shy and nervous at first but then it was fine and we really enjoyed it. We had a BIG writing station, a topic station, an art station and maths station. We really liked being able to share our learning with the parents and hope they enjoyed it.
Thank you all for coming today, have a great weekend!

The highlight of this week was the Halloween disco! We had lots of fun playing games and competitions. The costumes were quite frightening!!!
We did desert island maths this week. We had choose which items we would take to survive if we were stuck on a desert island, worked out how much they would cost and how much change we would get.
The aliens are about to leave to go back to Varna, so we wrote factual reports for them about Tranent’s history and Prestongrange Museum to take with them.
We had fun playing drama games today with Miss Watt that made everyone laugh!
Ta Ta everyone! Have a good weekend! Primary 4 xxx
This week we had a visitor from East Lothian Archaeology Services called Andy. He told us about the Stone Age, The Romans, The Iron Age and Medieval Times. He was telling us all about Tranent in the past. We got to hold and examine the artefacts and try to work out what they were, what they were used for and what they were made out of.
At swimming we are getting more confident in the water! We have been jumping in at the deep end and doing lengths of the pool.
Hope you all have a good holiday!
Hi Everybody, this week we had our visit to Prestongrange Museum and we would like to share some facts and pictures with you.
- The Pithead baths were made because the miners got really dirty in the pits. This was a big change for them so they could go home to their families clean.
- There is a really big chimney there to get the smoke away into the sky so the workers didn’t have to breathe the smoke.
- The Hoffman Continuous Kiln was used to make bricks, and was never turned off. Some times poor people would sleep there at night because it was warm.
- The Beam Engine was made for sucking water out of the pit so the miners didn’t drown. It was never turned off, except once because it broke down. It was on for constantly for 75 years!
- There were 700 miners working in the mine.
Have a great weekend! 🙂
On Tuesday the 20th September, the school lunches will be that of Monday the 19th. The choices will be:
Salmon Fish cake
Wednesday the 21st of September will be as normal.
This week we got a message from Tiger! It said “help me! My friends are not believing me that aliens are coming to Earth. So can you maybe write something to make them believe me!” We had to write descriptions of the aliens, including lots of details and using interesting vocabulary to convince Tigers friends the aliens were real!
In Art we did Pop Art, we were making self-portraits using only the primary colours: red, blue and yellow. It made it look like a comic. We have been working on adding by playing bingo and working on our chimney sums. We need to remember to carry the 1. In P.E. we have been practising throwing, catching and batting focusing on eye contact and correct technique.
At swimming we have been doing front flips in the water! We were put into teams and we had to get items from the bottom of the pool!
Have a good weekend! Primary 4 x
In maths this week we have been learning to round numbers to the nearest 10 and 100. If it is 5 or higher you round up and if it’s below 5 you round down. We developed our swimming skills this week by swimming with a float, doing races and playing games.
We designed our super heroes in our groups with super powers for being good team workers. Some of our super heroes were: Captain Courage, Dr Determination, Kind Kong, The Caring Lady, Aye Eye Captain, Be The Best You Can Man and Caring Potato. We learned how to draw our characters keeping all the body parts all the right size.
We have been learning about prayers like Our Father and the Act of Sorrow and thinking the meaning of them. The Our Father is different from the other prayers because it’s the only prayer that Jesus taught us.
Have a brilliant weekend! Primary 4 x
