Tuesday 11th August 2020 – Welcome!
Hi boys and girls and to all your parents/carers. I hope you’ve managed to have a lovely summer holiday and are looking forward to starting school this week. I am so excited to meet you all and have lots of exciting things planned for us.
I have taken a few pictures of our classroom now that the tables have been put back but all the play areas are the same as the pictures I sent before the holidays. We have now got a water tray as we are allowed that but it’s not in the pictures as it’s had a clean and drying. It’ll be there for you Wednesday/Thursday though.
I’m sure you’ll be feeling lots of different things right now; excited, a little bit anxious, nervous – but that’s absolutely normal! Our small groups on the first couple of days will allow you to explore the classroom and settle in 🙂 I’ll explain everything clearly when I meet you on Wednesday/Thursday so don’t worry.
I look forward to welcoming the first two groups tomorrow and the next two groups on Thursday!
Miss Herkes 🙂
Welcome to our Nursery – P1 transition blog! This is where you will find all the relevant information and correspondence about transition to P1. We will post video links to our virtual tours, share stories together and keep you up to date with everything you need to know for your child starting school in August.
Your remote transition timetable will outline the dates of when certain things will be added to the blog so keep an eye out for new updates and information. We will try our best to stick to those dates but some of the activities are linked to home learning by other children in the school and technology dependent!
I look forward to meeting you all soon!

The boys and girls in P6 have been busy preparing a letter for each of you 🙂 Your letters are going to be posted out so they should be with you soon – look out for them! The P6’s have introduced themselves to you and told you lots of information about Stoneyhill Primary. They hope you enjoy reading them!

Good morning everyone!
The transition activity today was questions/worries answered by P1 teacher. We want to try and put your minds at ease as best we can and make this transition as smooth as possible in these circumstances.

Tuesday 23rd June 2020 – Announcement
Please see announcement below from Lesley Brown; Chief Operating Officer (Education)
Dear parents & carers,
You may be aware that the Depute First Minister has, this afternoon, made a statement in the Scottish Parliament about all children and young people returning to school in August. He has indicated that the Scottish Government’s planning assumption is now to have all pupils returning to schools in August if it safe to do so. He has also indicated that this will be conditional and based on the scientific and health advice. He has confirmed that the plans we were putting in place for blended learning will be a contingency and will be essential preparation in case they are needed.
We are now urgently considering the implications of this announcement on our plans for August. It is clear that final decisions on this full return will not be confirmed until during the summer holidays. We are awaiting further specific guidance and will be in touch with you again as soon as we can. We continue to work on the assumption that staff will return to school on the 10th August and pupils will return on the 12th August.
We appreciate that this is a fast changing situation and you will be keen to know what this means for your child / children. We are committed to sharing information with you as soon as we can, including during the summer holidays.
Wednesday 24th June 2020 – Virtual Q&A Session Cancelled
The transition timetable had a virtual question and answer Google Meet scheduled for tomorrow to answer questions emailed in prior from yourselves, however we have only received a few and have answered these directly. We are therefore cancelling the session for tomorrow and will just respond to any other questions that come in during this week 🙂 please, if there’s anything you’re not sure about or things that you’re worried about get in touch and we will do our best to answer them.
Wednesday 24th June 2020 – P6 Buddy Leaflet
Look out for an email today with a leaflet from your P6 Buddy. They have given you some more information about lunches, playtimes etc. They hope you’ll find them helpful – they’re excited to meet you in August 🙂
Thursday 25th June 2020 – P6 Postcard
You should have received your postcard from your P6 buddy today via email – keep an eye out for it.
I am also going to upload some pics of the classroom so far tomorrow so please keep a look out for them to share with the children 🙂
Story Time – Friday 26th June 2020
I can’t believe this is our last virtual story time and that the summer holidays are here! I hope you enjoy the last one and I look forward to reading lots more books with you all in August!
Hi Nursery boys and girls – soon to be big Primary 1’s! I have put together some pictures of what our classroom is going to look like to give you a wee idea of what to expect in August. I haven’t been able to take pictures of the whole classroom as the rest of the furniture is all piled up so that the carpets can get cleaned in the holidays but hopefully there’s enough for you to get an idea.
I’ve taken photos of our interactive white board, class job display, birthday display, number line and alphabet, our meet and greet (which you can get practising in the holidays!) there is wave, namaste, air hug, wink, curtsy and bow and our play areas. Everything you need for Primary 1 will be in your own tray at school.
I hope this helps 🙂
Have a lovely, safe, summer holiday and I look forward to welcoming you all in August.
