The Tackling Poverty theme group for East Lothian Community Planning has developed an information profile about poverty in East Lothian.
The profile is packed with information and statistics about poverty and inequality in East Lothian including a section on child poverty. This information is useful in addressing need, but the document also highlights the importance of early intervention to tackle some of the complex problems created by poverty and inequality.
Although the link between economic disadvantage and health inequality is clear it is not the whole explanation of why some communities have poo er health.
The Scottish Government have set the following National Outcome: ‘We have tackled the significant inequalities in Scottish Society’. This will be tracked through a set of National Indicators, including • ‘decrease the proportion of individuals living in poverty’ • ‘increase healthy life expectancy at birth in the most deprived areas’
