Breastfeeding/infant feeding resources available

NHS Lothian

We have a small number of breastfeeding resource boxes available in Health Promotion. These were originally developed for East Lothian schools and designed to be implemented as part of the Curriculum for Excellence. We would like these boxes to go to school settings where they can be used/delivered as part of the Curriculum or, alternatively as a resource to support conversations with children/families i.e. at Early Years Centre’s.

The boxes include resources such as:

  • Breastfeeding and infant feeding story books
  • Images of breastfeeding women in different settings (these are used as conversation tools around culture and social barriers to breastfeeding and normalising this method of feeding)
  • Infants tummy size balls (these are useful for conversations around the size of a newborns tummy and how much breastmilk/formula they require)
  • Feeding mammals (soft toys that demonstrate mothers feeding their babies as normal feeding method – these are useful for educating younger children)
  • Board games (around healthy eating and the eatwell plate)

If you would either like a box or to discuss further, please contact me on (Melissa.clements@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk) or 0131 537 9266

Development Fund Bid- Family Learning Day

Walllyford Community Centre intends to run a Family Learning Event which will give parents, grandparents and carers the opportunity to play, share ideas, be creative and have fun with their child/children, the chance to develop their own skills as well as connect with other parents and members of the community.

Family learning supports parents, grandparents, carers and other family members to be an active part of their children’s learning, as well as becoming learners themselves. This event will include many different types of activities and will take place in the community centre and delivery will include other partner organisations.   Family learning aims to raise aspirations and create a long-term change in the culture of the family and patterns of learning. The combination of adults and children learning is crucial in building resilience in families, in creating community well-being, economic prosperity and social cohesion.

The event will run on Saturday morning 10-12.30pm.   The session will finish by providing a community lunch at 12.30pm.
