What: We are running a ‘Eating well  through life’ bite size training session looking at the newly updated ‘Eatwell Guide’  and key messages for healthy eating. The aim of the session is to provide an overview of the updated Eatwell Guide and what this means for the general population’s diet in Scotland. We will cover the key messages, key resources and key contacts for this area of work.

When: 31st August 2016 from 9-10.30 am at the Post Graduate Education Centre, Royal Infirmary Edinburgh.

Who: Anyone working in Lothian.

If you are an expectant father you are invited to attend a dads-to-be course in Lothian.

The course runs for 4 weeks from 6.30-8.30 pm and covers topics such as:

  • Supporting Labour and Birth
  • Baby care skills- everything from nappies, bathing, handling to coping with your baby crying
  • Early days
  • Post Natal Depression
  • Baby brain development
  • Being a dad… and much more!

NHS Lothian Health Promotion Service training courses and workshops are free of charge and open to anyone working in a paid or voluntary capacity in Lothian especially around food and health and/or early years nutrition. We are offering the following courses:

  • Promoting healthy eating in children and families Setting the Table

Young People, Tobacco Prevention and Smoking Cessation: an introduction

Date: Tuesday 11th October

Time: 9.15am – 4.30pm

Venue: Liberton Hospital (Function room), 113 Lasswade Road, Edinburgh EH16 6UB

Cost: Free to participants

Course Aims: To enable workers to gain an insight into the key issues relating to young people’s tobacco use, and to consider how both tobacco prevention and cessation can be delivered to young people.

“I found the information, resources and ideas to use within the classroom useful”
Previous course participants

Learning outcomes: participants will have an opportunity to:

• learn about approaches to smoking prevention including examples of practical exercise to use in working with young people
• develop skills in providing stop smoking support to young people in brief/opportunistic settings

Participants: this course is suitable for staff from a range of agencies such as High schools, community learning & development, youth work and NHS settings, who are looking for an introduction to working on tobacco issues with young people
