First Step is a community based, locally managed project in Musselburgh. Our aim is to provide opportunities for families with young children to make positive choices and to encourage parents and children to develop their skills, confidence and self-esteem.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Family Learning and Development Worker to join our developing, innovative team.
The post supports the Family Opportunities Programme providing opportunities for personal development, learning and positive well being for parents and carers through groups and classes. The post holder must have considerable experience of community development and group work and have worked in a community setting with families. A qualification at degree level in community education or equivalent is required.
This post is subject to membership of the PVG scheme and satisfactory references for more information
All expectant and breastfeeding mums are welcome to come along to these friendly, relaxed groups to share the breastfeeding experience and learn from other mums and breast-feeding trained health care staff. Teas and coffees may be provided or be available to purchase.
We update this list frequently, but it’s a good idea to ring the contact number or check with your midwife or health visitor or on the NHS Lothian internet before coming along for the first time, just in case there has been a recent change. You can download a breastfeeding group location map at www.feedgoodfactor.org.uk
Peer support is available in some areas of Lothian. Ask your midwife or health visitor what is available in your area.
