Service Development Fund – Beach Wheelchairs North Berwick

Act Plan Study Do

North Berwick Community Centre Management Committee wishes to support a group to develop a community led scheme to loan paediatric and adult beach wheelchairs. Beach wheelchairs could be made available to people with restricted mobility who can’t at present get onto the beach. The group have carried out a local survey (over 100 respondents) and organised a ‘Come See, Come Try’ Day which attracted over 70 people. The group is preparing an operational plan including booking system, risk assessments to ensure health and safety. They have organised a public awareness event to attract more volunteers and interest in the scheme. The ‘Come and Try event’ was very successful generating enthusiasm, drive and passion for the project (BBC Radio covered the event). The project will include volunteer training to ensure protection of children and vulnerable adults, safe usage of the chairs, maintenance and storage. They wish to purchase 2 beach wheelchairs (1 adult, 1 paediatric) to test the scheme in North Berwick and provide insurance cover for storage and usage of beach wheelchairs.

Service Development Fund Report form – Musselburgh Congregational Church

Act Plan Study Do

Our Sunday School has been running for many many years, the Church having been founded in 1789. In recent years, after having been under threat of extinction, it has returned being one of the largest in the area, catering for a wide range of children from toddlers to teenagers, providing moral guidance, classical teaching and life benefits.

It is often difficult to breach the age gap, but we manage in a very effective and engaging way throughout the church, between the elderly congregation and young children. Music is a big part of this.

We often hold cross church events- parties, picnics, fundraising events that enable all ages to come together and close the breach.

Act Plan Study Do

TaSK is a social group for children who have been diagnosed as autistic or ADHD, and their families. It offers support and information for the families by providing social opportunities through play and where parents can share ideas and concerns.
