Fourth Grade have been learning about the Cherokee Nation and the Trail of Tears. Then they compared their learning with the Scottish clan system. They were amazed by how much they had in common e,g when they learned about the Indian Removal Act and the Highland Clearances.
Fourth grade learned a lot about different countries around the world from the Woodlands Junior Interactive Christmas Advent Calendar. They compared their own traditions and celebrations with others and created a display to share their learning.
For Halloween this year, we learned about the dark and gory side of Edinburgh and its history. They found it pretty scary too!
Much fun was had by all yesterday when Mr and Mrs Macniven visited another school in the Union County District to speak to seven primary 1 classes about Scotland. They learned about where Scotland was and how to get there, they watched ceilidh dancing and made little Scottish puppets, and also listened to Law primary pupils playing the bagpipes and drums which they found really interesting, although one little boy thought it was a little loud and noisy. Their favourite part was learning about Mr Macniven`s outfit and especially the sporran, and one wee boy was particularly interested in our different accents and wanted to let us know that he spoke American….
