All East Lothian Council schools, nurseries and specialist education provision will re-open tomorrow. We are working closely with providers who transport pupils from more isolated rural areas (outwith towns and villages) to and from our schools. Transport providers will contact parents directly if there are any difficulties collecting pupils from these locations due to road conditions.
We ask for all pupils to enter the school building upon arrival tomorrow morning. The gates open from 8.30am. The conditions of the playground will be assessed in the morning by Mrs Whitford and Mrs Hay.
Due to current weather conditions all East Lothian schools are closed today.
For information regarding tomorrow please regularly check our school Twitter page @TeamWBPS or the East Lothian Council website. Announcements are also made on Forth Radio. Our School Parent Council Facebook page is also sharing any tweets or information regarding school closures.
Mrs Whiteley-McPhee recently attended an art course at Edinburgh College of Art. The course
was based around the techniques of Henri Matisse and Mrs Whiteley-McPhee has shared her
experience of the course with all of the staff at West Barns.
Recently P2/3 and P4/5 visited the John Gray centre to take part in a workshop called ‘Impressionist Adventure.’
They looked at examples of landscapes by Claude Monet and created their own landscapes of East Lothian using
the same techniques. They also learned about how people lived and worked in East Lothian in the past.
Thanks to Ola for offering these free workshops to our school. Here is a link to see our P2/3 pupils in action!
TIME magazine recently published a list of the top 100 books for children and young adults.
How many of these books have you read? Do you have a favourite? My favourite would have to be The Tales of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter.
Perhaps you could find one in our school library and read it in class
or visit your local library and read one at home.
Welcome back to a new school term. We hope that you all had a
lovely Christmas break. What is your favourite Christmas memory?
This week our pupils have selected new golden time activities for
our four week block, and new to the selection of activities is
the Web Club. We will be learning how to make comments on our
blog and some of our older pupils will be learning to upload photos
to make online slideshows and embed the links into our blog.
Feel free to get involved in our online comments and posts – the
more the merrier!
